Friday, December 09, 2011. Man We Was Lonely. In Nashville, that is. Glad to be gone and moved away. It seems like the kind of place I should be. And if we'd had some friends there, some people to play with.you know.community, it may have been different. In a year, we found very little. And that's what Nashville felt like. Nobody was interested. I was told that people were jaded regarding music there. Turns out, what they are. Something is missing. Our old ministry life was all-encompassing. I've...The p...

Sunday, November 03, 2013. I've written at length here about our adventure after leaving full time ministry in the fall of 2010. Long story short, we moved to Nashville to pursue a music career, found it to be a fool's errand, and felt that we should go back to full time church work. That was two and a half years ago. Pearl Jam's "Unemployable". That I can do that, no tangible evidence that I can be that guy. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Aurora, Ill, United States. View my complete profile.

UNCOMMONLY UNCOOL: Nine Months in Aurora, IL
http://uncommonlyuncool.blogspot.com/2014/10/nine-months-in-aurora-il.html
Monday, October 20, 2014. Nine Months in Aurora, IL. We're nine months in to a new ministry in a way-out Chicago suburb, on the edge of farms and prairie. We're living in the second largest city in Illinois, which is Aurora. You may know it from its portrayal in the movie Wayne's World. Do you remember that donut place that's in the movie? It's not here. But there's a Dunkin' Donuts just down the street. I guess that will have to suffice. A great track on All Things Must Pass. The tape reveals John's...

Saturday, September 03, 2011. As our ministry search winds down with no prospects forthcoming for the foreseeable future, I thought I'd take a little stock of our thirteen years in ministry, specifically the beginning of my ministry and my experiences therein. This will be the first in a series of posts about the Church, and my experiences in ministry. Can a 37 year old man be expected to make a promise he made at 18? Have the drive to do it, to do something. And that literally is better than nothing.

Saturday, January 14, 2012. I'd always had this nagging feeling that something wasn't quite right. During my first ministry, I was teaching a class on the book of Acts when I asked the class this question: "We see in Acts 2 that the church had, quote 'everything in common'. They shared possessions, and spent a lot of time together. Given the nature of life today, do you think it's possible for the church to live like this now? Had people leave his ministry when he spoke the truth. But we. Don't, either b...

Monday, April 25, 2011. He's Alright, But He's No David.or Goliath. We use Scripture like this all the time. For example, God tells Jeremiah that he has plans for him; plans for good-you know the verse (Jeremiah 29:11). People quote it when things are good, when things are bad, in their sleep, and possibly before eating a Big Mac. Christians love, love, love this verse. And, while it's a perfectly cromulent verse, none of us Jesus lovers ever notice that it's.wait for it.NOT ABOUT US! Or blow some killer...

Friday, June 03, 2011. Death and Other Miscreants. My wife said something I thought was profound, and I immediately agreed. She felt like our break from church ministry has been a vacation from our life. I feel the same way. You know those vacations when you go visit family because you haven't seen them in a while, and you basically just stay around their house for a week because you don't have any money to do anything else? Remember the fatigue I mentioned earlier? Give me love, give me.peace. I AM LIST...
