the dough ball

Monday, May 30, 2011. Istanbul, Cappadoccia, Bozcaada. Gasp Yes, the blog is still breathing. Barely. I’m sure you thought for the past year, it was coughing and wheezing to its slow death (at the rate I was posting…), but alas, I’ve decided to bring it back for another go round. These are just a few to name. If I had to describe the trip, a flood of words comes to my mind, many of them contradictory because the cities we visited provided such a sampling of different Turkeys. the dough ball: El Tropezón

http://thedoughball.blogspot.com/2007/05/el-tropezn_08.html

Tuesday, May 8, 2007. Of course, living here in Spain, as most people will tell you, it’s hard to avoid and it’s definitely growing on me, I’m happy to say (I just can’t get enough of that xistorra). This last Saturday afternoon I was totally blown away by a new dish that seems so simple, yet it was so delicious, I don’t know how I never ordered it before: mushrooms. Perfectly cooked in a garlicky butter sauce, a big silver platter of ‘em. What’s not to like? May 8, 2007 at 12:49 PM. La Taverna del Clínic.

the dough ball: San Sebastián: restaurants

http://thedoughball.blogspot.com/2008/06/san-sebastin-restaurants.html

Saturday, June 21, 2008. I guess I’ve waited a sufficient amount of time to talk about Mugaritz and Etxebarri. Not that I meant to, but things happen, people go to Italy, etc. So now that I’ve talked all about the pintxos that make up San Sebastián, let’s talk about restaurants and Michelin stars. They look a bit like purple stones, and you bite into them, and inside it just a potato. I don’t know how to describe the outside, except saying it’s kind of like a coating on Easter candy. ...There are small h...

the dough ball: Roma

http://thedoughball.blogspot.com/2008/04/roma.html

Sunday, April 13, 2008. We got another pasta dish, which I don’t remember and obviously didn’t find it significant enough to take a picture, and a plate of assorted meats and cheeses, which was just mediocre. We’ve had better in Barcelona. Also had better in Italy. I would’ve taken two plates of that. Next, I got gnocchi because I do love them, but these did not seem homemade and were just ok. D was not so happy with his, he got something like lamb and thought it wasn’t very juicy or tender. A good bar t...

the dough ball: Breakfast Tacos, 'nuff said

http://thedoughball.blogspot.com/2007/07/breakfast-tacos-nuff-said.html

Tuesday, July 24, 2007. Breakfast Tacos, 'nuff said. I don’t have enough good things to say about brisket. I love it, that’s all there is to it. Now I don’t know if there are any ways to improve brisket (although you’ve gotta have tender, juicy, sliced brisket, of course) but my favorite brisket accompaniment? My taco of brisket, egg, and cheese. Dan's brisket, cheese, and jalapeño, along with a dollop of salsa. My mom's bacon, egg, potato, and cheese (I guess not everyone is obsessed with brisket).

lydia saucepan: Pintxo, pintxo!

http://lydiasaucepan.blogspot.com/2008/10/pintxo-pintxo.html

Wednesday, October 08, 2008. Pron 'pincho, pincho! Was he offered it as a prize? Or was it left over from working in the wine shop, 20-odd years ago? I never found out. Anyhow, somehow I got onto pintxos. I think I had been searching tapas, and pintxos popped up, and as soon as I discovered that they are pronounced 'pinch-ose' I set my heart upon them. I honestly can't think of a more euphoniously named food right at this moment. Using the marvellous food blog search. Who had done a magnificent job.

Fly With Me . . .: September 2009

http://mollywells.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Fly With Me . . . Friday, September 11, 2009. This Wednesday a group of us ventured downtown to watch the World Cup qualifying match between Paraguay and Argentina. I've never really been much of a soccer fan and I don't know if it's just being in South America or my students or what, but I think I really like it! I doubt I'll ever play, but watching and being part of the crowd is awesome! Here are some photos from the game:. Paraguayan paraphernalia for sale on the bus.definitely bought a headband ;).

Fly With Me . . .: January 2010

http://mollywells.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Fly With Me . . . Sunday, January 17, 2010. Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, Mendoza, Maipu, and Cachueta. Valparaiso = port town, slightly sketchy, very colorful, a "photographer´s dream", WONDERFUL food (La Concepcion), good hostel, fun new friends, card games, vino, graffiti, jail, etc. Vina del Mar = beaches! Tons of people, 6 min bus ride from Valpo, bus ride where I almost got stuff swiped, freezing cold water. Mendoza = wine country, wonderful. Maipu = where we actually stayed (suburb of Mendoza? So afte...

Fly With Me . . . Monday, November 30, 2009. And, how could I forget? Yesterday was a wonderful, wonderful day.maybe my most favorite day here yet! My roommates and I ventured out to San Lorenzo to help celebrate Lila's birthday with her and her friends and family and it was absolutely wonderful - a perfect reminder of exactly why I wanted to do this whole experience to begin with. Wonderful food, wonderful company, and some wonderful music to top it off! Check it out :). So here's a quick update. Oh, la...

Fly With Me . . .: October 2009

http://mollywells.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Fly With Me . . . Thursday, October 1, 2009. One thing I'm definitely not used to is the opposite season thing we've got going on down here. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's awesome having two springs and summers, but it is completely bizarre to me to have flowers blooming everywhere when October is rolling in. But, if that's as weird as things get, I'll take it! Andspeaking of two springs, I just had my second Spring Break.HOLLA! Here are some photos from BA. Down by the new port area.

Fly With Me . . . Sunday, April 24, 2011. And, before I forget. Here are some pics from the Jesuit Ruins that I went to here in Paraguay a few weeks ago. It was a great little getaway! View from the hotel. So glad I ventured out to Encarnacion to see these ruins. My last few months in Paraguay are upon me.yikes! Hope I get to see more of the 'guay here soon! Much love to everyone! Bolivia or Bust, Baby! So, I just got back from Bolivia a couple of days ago and man, was that an adventure! Hello, Sunrise :).

http://mollywells.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Fly With Me . . . Saturday, February 6, 2010. Big Break Trip 2010. These are my notes I started after Mendoza that cover traveling through Argentina, down through Chile, and then up and over to Uruguay. A lot of them probably won't make any sense, but these are all the little things I remembered along the way that seemed noteworthy at the time.Enjoy! Center of town right by the Artisan Fair - best market ever! Bariloche, Argentina = awesome! Seeing that makes me really want to get braces. Puerto Montt, C...

Fly With Me . . . Thursday, April 29, 2010. Mad Hatter Birthday Bash. So, if you know me at all, you know that the one thing I love to celebrate are birthdays.I mean, what better reason to celebrate? It's not very often that you can get all the people you love together and although I wasn't able to get everyone I love together (you know, being in South America and all ;) ), I did have a rockin' good time celebrating with my new friends in Paraguay! Cristi and I (Roomies and Math Department).

The Doughboy Speaks: The Blog of Benny Yau. Thoughts, Rants, Musings, and Bitchings from yours truly. Run away now before you're sucked into my ramblings. Too Bad Denny’s Ignored Me. Below is a letter that I wrote to the head office of Denny’s Restaurant after having a pretty crap experience at their location on Davie and Thurlow. Now, yes, I probably should’ve known better than to eat at Denny’s, but it was late, and I was craving some greasy food for some reason. I would like to give some feedback base...
