a feast, everyday

Friday, September 11, 2009. Tomita Farm @ Nakafurano. From Furano we took the JR sightseeing 'Norocco-go' train to the special 'Lavender Station' which only operates during the summer months. An old steam train but refurbished into a very quaint automobile made this short trip very disneyland-like. The sunflower field along the Furano-Narafurano route. This station only operates during the two summer months, June and July. The wheat plants created a golden hue for the rainbow field. And a sea of white.

Monday, August 24, 2009. Mui Fong did most of the research for places of interest n Hokkaido before we set off. She insisted on visiting this National Park. She read that this place is most beautiful in Summer and coldest in winter. We took a train from Furano to Asahikawa, the second largest city after Sapporo in Hokkaido. From there we hopped on to a bus at Asahikawa JR Station which took us for a scenic one and a half hour ride to Asahidate Station. Is used instead of ' san. 1st view point of the trail.

a feast, everyday: November 2008

http://thedroolteam.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2008. Dinner @ Fijisan's Foothill. Note the sashimi at the top of picture, the white flesh, they were soooo fresh and delicious I wanted to have them all to myself. They exuded essence of the sea without a hint of fishiness and so so sweet. I didn't want to mar the taste by dipping them in wasabi/soy sauce, so, for the first time I had sashimi straight. This is the fish who sacrified for the culinary best of this Japan trip. Three types of grilled fish. A feast, everyday. A Korean ki...

Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Christmas In June @ Auckland. With the cold weather and most of the family around (alas minus Heather and Bryan), it felt like christmas to me. Then, there was this enticing honey glazed slab of ham I could not resist when we visited the local supermarket, The Foodtown. A very yummy hummus dip for appetizer. One of my favorite fruits, cherries and grapes for dessert. Ham accompanied by some pan-fried gourmet potatoes and fresh salad. Soooo good. Merry christmas :p. After the car...

GNK on the Go!: Flower Girl Kay

http://gregwee.blogspot.com/2014/02/flower-girl-kay.html

GNK on the Go! Greg, Nee and Baby Kay on the Go! Food adventure, travels, recipes and now, kiddy stuff too. Wednesday, February 26, 2014. This was Kay's first starring role as a flower girl; for my cousin Adrian's wedding. When the request first came in, we didn't put much hope on it seeing how Kay is usually so sticky. But we thought we'd just go for it and see what happens. What a day and what a role to be playing on her own birthday. She is now officially and technically 3 years old. And we've never e...

Postcards from north borneo. My state; as how i see it. Saturday, August 25, 2007. Meet Ahmad Jais Inil. He wants to capitalise on Sabah's reputation as a seafood paradise. Those sitting in Sabah coffee shops would have likely experienced 'mobile vendors' hawking everything from pirated DVD movies to Brietling, Omega andRolex watches to sunglasses to wallets and belts. So much for capitalising on a good thing. Links to this post. Wednesday, August 22, 2007. In this case, their wheel barrow was loaded wit...

Postcards from north borneo. My state; as how i see it. Sunday, September 30, 2007. At the backyard of my house is a wiremesh basket in which my family has been tossing in discarded plastic containers, mostly mineral water bottles. After a while we send them to the recycling centre. Mundane stuff. But looking at the filled wiremesh basket recently, i realised that there was an awful lot of plastic containers just one family has been throwing out. Links to this post. Postcards from north borneo. My state; as how i see it. Wednesday, October 15, 2008. The sun broke through the clouds as I was about to board a flight from my east coast hometown of Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu revealing this glorious scene. Whenever I look at a Fokker 50, I reminded about how one crashed. Into a squatter colony near the old Tawau airport in Sept 1995.  It is something that I hope never to write about again. Postcards from north borneo. My state; as how i see it. Sunday, October 21, 2007. He was alone near a pile of sand with two pieces of cut off planks as his toys. As his father worked to complete renovations at a house, this boy found some discarded pieces of wood to live out his imagination. As I watched, the pieces of wood were transformed from what a apparently was a four-wheel-drive vehile race across a desert to a train (after being strung together with a piece of plastic sheet.). Postcards from north borneo. My state; as how i see it. Thursday, June 28, 2007. Photographing these Borneo pygmy elephants were a cinch. Afterall they were confined in their enclusures at the Lok Kawi wildlife park near Kota Kinabalu. The situation is hardly different for their cousins in the wild, particularly in the Lower Kinabatangan. Region where tracts of jungles where these pachyderms used to forage have been cleared to make way for oil palm plantations. Links to this post. Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

A blog about growing stuff and eating it. January 17, 2010. All good things must come to an end. Posted by thedroolingvegetable under Uncategorized. Ah, the new year. A time for contemplation, setting of targets, new goals to aspire to. A time too for review and change. Dear reader, I couldn’t quite pull my finger out and summon up the energy to tap out a few words about the vegetables that happened to be on my mind at the time. I’m ashamed to say that I found the idea a bit of a drag. This is not a good...
