The Eighth Day Ours: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

http://www.theeighthdayours.blogspot.com/2011/05/charlie-and-chocolate-factory.html

The Eighth Day Ours. Saturday, May 28, 2011. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. 26, skinny as a rail, smokes like a chimney, has been living on the island for almost a year now. He sells these beautiful postcards in sepia tones that feature photographs of people, which is nicer and more representitive of the country than, say, a gecko or a sunset. He also makes and sells chocolate. We are both pretty social people but have fallen into seclusion; on a given day we basically only interact with one another.

The Eighth Day Ours: May 2009

http://www.theeighthdayours.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

The Eighth Day Ours. Sunday, May 31, 2009. Counting down the minutes to my birthday. Sometimes when I'm in a mood I can feel- for a split second- everyone I've ever loved move inside of me. Maybe like grass sinking under a foot. Or like a pile of worms. Or like water that is getting bigger and bigger. Maybe take a moment to remember your endlessness.  There is someone you used to be. Thursday, May 28, 2009. I just watched that movie again tonight.  A few thoughts:. 1) Re the space ship taking off:  ...

The Eighth Day Ours: Ometepe (The Beginning)

http://www.theeighthdayours.blogspot.com/2011/03/ometepe-beginning_30.html

The Eighth Day Ours. Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Lunch at Cafe Campestre deserves its own paragraph. I had a spring greens salad with slices of organic roasted chicken, avocado, beets, and honey mustard dressing. And the best garlic bread I've ever eaten on the side. Way out of my budget ( a seven dollar meal! Then the next morning, Thomas arrived to bring me home! I was so relieved, because I was worried that the plan would fall through, especially becasue we had been having the minimum of communication ...

The Eighth Day Ours: February 2011

http://www.theeighthdayours.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html

The Eighth Day Ours. Sunday, February 20, 2011. Life On The Oregon Trail. Yesterday our car got stuck fording the river, and I almost ate an iguana. We had found our friends. They went iguana hunting and cut it up and boiled it. I had pledged to myself that I would eat it because that's the kind of person I am. Also, I would have been able to say on my blog, "I ate an iguana". Unfortunately, we left before it was ready. You can get them in San Pablo! That's all they serve. Gourmet mac and cheese. Unlucki...

The Franco-files: September 2008

http://franco-files.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, September 28, 2008. So, I've been a bad, lazy blogger recently. Sorry! I'll try and do better. Once again, it's been a week, and I've done a lot. Here's a quick run-down:. Weekend trip to Giverny (Monet's house and garden) and Rouen (where Joan of Arc was burned, also home to an amazing gothic cathedral). In short, absouletly incredible and gorgeous. I took 160 photos, mostly of flowers (heh). I'll upload some of the good ones tomorrow. Saw a play, Du Cristal a la Fumee. Links to this post. But I...

The Franco-files: Epicurean

http://franco-files.blogspot.com/2008/12/epicurean.html

Wednesday, December 10, 2008. On Monday I had my last Theatre class, finally gave my presentation, and then went with the class to our last play of the semester. It was L'illusion Comique. By Corneille. It's about a man who has lost his son, and goes to a magician for help. The magician says he will show the man his son, but what he actually shows him is a second play within the play! Then the actors of the play within a play begin a third play! Chestnut and Fennel Soup. Recipe by Thierry Chaney). Dissol...

Sunday, November 30, 2008. Veni, Vidi.Vino? So my Thanksgiving pecan pie turned out really well. And a close up:. Despite all of my reservations, people really liked it! I got a lot of compliments on it, I was even told it was the best dessert of the night! My cranberries on the other hand.didn't turn out so well. Don't get me wrong, they were delicious, I just didn't make them far enough in advance, and so they didn't have time to gel. Oh well, they made a nice salad dressing. The first is a rose from B...

Saturday, December 6, 2008. Tomatoe and Smoked Salmon Quiche. My quiche was a hit! So, I decided to post the recipe I made up. Everything is in metric (sorry! But if you wanted to make a 9-inch quiche you would divide the ingredients in half and leave everything else the same. 28-32 cm pre-made pie crust. 5 eggs (yolk and white). 1 petit-suisse yogurt (60g). 4 slices of smoked salmon. A handful of grated cheese. 1) Pre-heat oven to 180. 2) Press crust into 32cm pie tin. December 9, 2008 at 2:29 PM. Chron...

Food For a Bear. Food: 3: something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies (food for thought). Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Well, this is pretty blatant procrastination. I have a midterm tomorrow, but instead of studying some more, I'm posting here. I tell myself that I'll be good and go back to studying soon, but who knows? Last week I had also made a batch of brownies for a meeting in the house. I used this. Here's what I did:. 2 cups white sugar. 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder. 1 tablespoon instant coffee.

Food For a Bear. Food: 3: something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies (food for thought). Sunday, May 3, 2009. It's been 2 months since my last post. I guess these things just ebb and flow, like anything else. What's happened since then? Well, not much. Mostly, life has just stabilized. I have a great house for next year, a summer job at the BIAC. Sunday, May 11, 2014. If i were a functional human being. It was only this morning that I discovered this intriguing Nat Geo article. On The Seine; a river that flows through Paris and connects all the artistic spirits of the city. Ripple by ripple it whispers tales of love and woes of the people.
