Scientists United for the Global Advancement of Awesomeness. Friday, August 10, 2007. Development Primer: 3 Models of Sex Determination and Dosage Compensation, Part 1. You're probably aware that a person's sex is typically determined by their combination of sex chromosomes. In humans, females have two X chromosomes, whereas males have an X and a Y. But how do you go from X and Y to boy and girl? And what does the cell have to do to compensate for the chromosome differences between the sexes? Is a tiny i...

SUGAA Headquarters: Development Primer: 3 Models of Sex Determination and Dosage Compensation, Part 2

Scientists United for the Global Advancement of Awesomeness. Saturday, August 11, 2007. Development Primer: 3 Models of Sex Determination and Dosage Compensation, Part 2. Drosophila's sex chromosomes are perhaps more familiar-looking, in that it has an X and a Y chromosome, with XX animals being phenotypically female and XY animals being phenotypically male. As we'll see, however, the mechanisms are vastly different from what we see in humans and other mammals. Only gets up and running in XX animals.

Monday, February 11, 2008. So in the past two weeks the schools have been closed three times. Once because it was too cold and twice because of all the snow! The sidewalk that Daddy just cleared with the snow blower. Snow hill (it's now a mountain). The house (before the awning fell off cause it had too much snow on it). I like to take off my mittens and eat snow! I have fallen and I can't get up. Links to this post. Ky and her big girl bed. It'll be nice to have her out of diapers before she's two!

Wednesday, October 31, 2007. Ky goes for tests tomorrow. Kylin has to go to Children's tomorrow morning for her tests. She has her ultrasound first. Hopefully her right kidney has caught up with the left. After her ultrasound she has her VCUG. I'm a stressing out a little about her tests. I'm afraid that she won't lay still and have to be sedated. I don't like that Josh isn't going to be there. I am thankful that Mema is coming with so I don't have to do this alone. Sunday, June 29, 2008. We got up and packed and were ready to hit the road. We had a little drive to Cody, WY where we were going to see the Buffalo Bill museum. Ky had her coffee and then we were off. Ky with her coffee. Teepees infront of the museum. Casey in the buffalo coat. One of Buffalo Bill's guns. Ky in the outside sculpture garden. Looking at the kitty. I wish I was there for that. I laughed so hard when Mema told me what Casey said. I would not have even noticed it. I think it's so...We went t...

Shevokas Family: Super Weekend
http://shevy-shevy.blogspot.com/2009/02/super-weekend.html
Monday, February 2, 2009. After that I let her go on the other blow upy slides. The gym got pretty crowded with kids so the lines were super long (according to Casey). Good thing there was music going to entertain us. They played "Cha Cha Slide." I have some (not so great) video of Ky doing the dance! That was worth chasing the kids around for 2.5 hours in the school gym! Casey talked one of his friends into doing a joust with him. Watching two kindergarteners joust is a riot! Good thing that wasn't Casey.

Tuesday, May 13, 2008. So Josh decided to give Casey a hair cut on Sat. Casey said he wanted it shorter and shorter so Josh cut it shorter and shorter. This is the final product. Here's a side by side of the two. It's too bad Josh has sunglasses on. I'll have to try to find a different picture. Links to this post. Friday, May 2, 2008. Who is this girl? This is who I found when I went to pick Casey and Kylin up from daycare. She was so beautiful! They all love to play with baby KyKy! Links to this post.

Casey lost his first tooth (we are at a total of 4 now). Josh graduated with his nursing and has been working as an RN in the ICU for the last year. My sister got married. I had a wonderful trip to Europe with my mom! I believe we are headed to Colorado for a friend's wedding in August. We have been keeping busy! Links to this post. Casey on his horse.
