The Flanders Moss Bog Blog

The Flanders Moss Bog Blog. Wednesday, 26 January 2011. To a rock from a soft place. So I wish for a wet future for Flanders Moss and happy bogging for any visitors. And seeing as the last posting ended on a poem why not this one (or two) as well, this poem by Sheena Blackhall is about the most important part of Flanders Moss, the keystone to the bog - the Sphagnum moss. I am a child of the bog. Red as a ****'s comb. Yellow as jester's bells,. Orange as carnival,. Green as a dragon's eye,. I drink the dew.

The Flanders Moss Bog Blog: Seeing red

http://theflandersmossbogblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/seeing-red.html

The Flanders Moss Bog Blog. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. There is now a red squirrel project Saving Scotland's Red Squirrels www.scottishsquirrels.org.uk. That is working hard to save red squirrels before they go extinct so as soon as I was in the office I sent in my record to help them get a picture of where there were still red squirrels surviving. The Flanders Moss Bog Blog: November 2010

http://theflandersmossbogblog.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

The Flanders Moss Bog Blog. Tuesday, 23 November 2010. Walking on the Moss is hard, not quite like the gentle sauntering of Henry Thoreau but still walking is good and walking is work, in fact some of my best and most productive work is done when walking.but don't tell that to my line manager. So a strange, long striding gait, stick in hand and your head nodding up and down doesn't make a good look but who's to see you? Posted by David Pickett, Isle of May NNR Reserves Manager. The Flanders Moss Bog Blog. Friday, 21 January 2011. Another morning, another bird. Effortlessly at height hangs his still eye / His wings hold all creation in weightless quiet / Steady as hallucination in the streaming air / While banging wind kills those stubborn hedges" (Ted Hughes, The Hawk in the Rain). The Flanders Moss Bog Blog: March 2010

http://theflandersmossbogblog.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

The Flanders Moss Bog Blog. Wednesday, 31 March 2010. Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve has just become been officially put on the tourist map this week when Stirling Council put up some new brown tourist signs. It has been a bit of a performance to get the signs up but now the reserve is sign posted from the B873 Aberfoyle. And the A811 from the Kippen. Roundabout. It wasn't easy to find the reserve before but now tourists and day visitors will have no problem getting to the car park. Last night was...

Posted by David Pickett, Isle of May NNR Reserves Manager. Monday, 23 August 2010. Here be bog dragons - is that it? So the mystery is not only how do these strange creatures survive in thick sphagnum soup, what do they eat and how do they catch it but also what makes them choose specific squidgy bits to live in? the flanerie | an idle stroll through our days

An idle stroll through our days. The arrival of winter. June 5, 2014. There is a tree out the front of our house which fills me with happiness. In summer it is the most radiant green and shelters our garden from the heat. But its real beauty lies in autumn when it turns the most magnificent shades of red, orange and yellow. Over the past few weeks I have been watching the colours change. Last week the leaves started falling. On one particular day, so many fell that it sounded like rain. May 29, 2014.
