Tuesday, 23 August 2016. Free software - Bits of Freedom. 18:41, Tuesday, 23 August 2016. Over the past close to 20 years, I've spoken to, and interviewed, many hackers from the free software movements' early days. One of my pet projects, which I'm gathering more data for at the moment, is writing a book tentatively called "Untold stories and unsung heroes". Here's a draft excerpt of one of those stories. Do you want to read more? Well, I guess you should then fund me to write the book properly :-).

Using the FreeIPA PKI with Puppet – James Cape
https://jcape.name/2012/01/16/using-the-freeipa-pki-with-puppet
Using the FreeIPA PKI with Puppet. At my current employer, I’ve setup FreeIPA. To deal with the whole DNS/LDAP/Kerberos/PKI kerfuffle. At previous firms I’ve done a DIY setup for this: CentOS 5, tied into OpenLDAP. 8212;which required I backport OpenLDAP 2.4 and the version of MIT Kerberos that’s capable of using LDAP as a backend database to CentOS 5. On the SSL side, I let Puppet. Manage it’s own PKI and just used gnoMint. All talking together, or I could setup FreeIPA. The second issue is ease-of-mana...

Getting Started with Apache Hadoop 0.23.0. Posted on Dec 4, 2011. Hadoop 0.23.0 was released November 11, 2011. Many of the instructions in this article came from trial and error, and there are lots of alternative (and possibly better ways) to configure the systems. Please feel free to suggest improvements in the comments. Also, all commands were only tested on Mac OS X. The start/stop mapred-related scri...

Replacing Foremans web SSL certificate.

Replacing Foremans web SSL certificate. May 11, 2015. Does a great job of providing SSL support out-of-the-box, it does this by using the SSL certificates generated by your puppet-ca. Unless your users web browsers all trust the puppet CA (unlikely), any human user of Foreman is going to get SSL warnings. Replacing Foremans SSL certifcate with one that’s signed by a default trusted CA requires some care for 2 reasons:. Change the CA that foreman uses to authenticate these components. SSL directives SSLEn...

Archive for 22. May 2010. Puppetiga failide jagamine repo. Mai 22, 2010. Repo avalikuks tegemiseks installisin apache2. Seejärel tegin /var/www alla ubuntu repositorile vastava struktuuri. kopeerisin kataloogipuu http:/ de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/lucid/.

Modules are reusable, sharable units of Puppet code. Basics you need to know about modules you can find here. You can use any editor to edit your modules, I personally use Geany. If I have a GUI, and vim. When I just have a CLI. Than we have Geppetto. Which is an integrated development environment for Puppet modules and manifests.
