The Fuddler: August 2009

The late composer/performer Frank Zappa. Remarked, shortly before his own untimely death, that he had no intention of making any extraordinary effort to commemorate himself as many politicians and celebrities routinely do (his grave isn't even marked. To further clarify my point, how many of you have ever heard of Waldo Semon?

Thursday, September 10, 2009. I sure miss Ma Bell. Photo Creative Commons 2009 The Fuddler. Non-comm, attrib, no derivs. Last week, I found an mid-1970's-vintage desk telephone. It was sitting out at the curb next to boxes of trash, and an old steel record caddy full of 45 RPM records (which I also glommed). Needless to say, it needed cleaning, and I did a thorough job (didn't the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Remind us of the importance of telephone sanitation? The Fuddler: March 2009

http://thefuddler.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 26, 2009. Saying goodbye to an old friend. It’s the end of an era. Whether we like it or not. When I bought my first digital camera, I went to Brian’s store. I knew that I’d be paying a bit more than I would if I shopped online. I also knew I’d get something from Brian that I’d never find at Amazon.com, Buy.com or anyplace else in cyberspace - solid, personal. Photo Creative Commons 2009 by PMG. September 10, 2008 · 3:41 pm. Telling stories to ghosts. The above photo is of me telling ghost stories on Star Island. An island off the coast of New Hampshire. This island has lots of old creaky buildings, recorded history that includes pirates and murders and goes back to Captain John Smith, and is therefore rife with ghost stories. Since a teen I’ve been asking anyone I know with any relation to the island, “tell me all your ghost stories.”. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Four Y...

Understand the performance space before you tell. The day before I performed, four gentlemen who sat around and spoke about the Hurricane of ’39 pulled in a great crowd. Their advantage was that there were four of them, and when one ran out of material another could jump in, like a real conversation. Filed under Lessons in Storytelling.

Four Year Olds : A Tough Crowd | Storytelling Jen

https://storytellingjen.wordpress.com/2008/09/04/hello-world

September 4, 2008 · 6:17 pm. Four Year Olds : A Tough Crowd. And I enjoy hanging out with four year olds. They are cute. They like to play. They have no qualms about picking their noses. All worthy qualities in a human. As an audience however…. Actually as with many things in life, the challenges of storytelling to this audience is also what makes it so rewarding. They have a short attention span. The stories get to be shorter. These are angels who want to participate, and they will. You are commenting u...

The Fuddled Medic

Tuesday, 1 July 2014. One problem with hospital medicine is the increasing specialisation. This means that we know more and more about less and less. Sometimes there will be a situation when juniors in a particular speciality know more about a particular problem then the registrar/consultant. Hence when I am asked to ring the haematologist to discuss a platelet count of 700 in a person when they had an operation one week ago I roll my eyes in disbelief. But I am an FY2 so if I say this I am ignored.

Monday, September 1, 2014. Location: Maple Canyon, Utah, USA. Sunday, August 12, 2012. This is the model for the sculptures I am working on. This is 32ft tall. I went to the Bountiful Folk Festival. I had Tibetan food for lunch. It is a cross between Indian and Chinese food (which makes sense geographically). The event was poorly attended. I sat in the front row for the French performers. There were some cute, tall French dancers. Saturday, June 16, 2012. Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Sunday, April 22, 2012.
