https://thegardendeli.wordpress.com/2015/04/15/a-well-travelled-food-the-story-of-the-bialy
More writing …. The part time vegan. Notes and recipes from an edible garden. A well-travelled food the story of the bialy. Posted by The Garden Deli. Asymp; 10 Comments. Over the last few months, I’ve tried a few different bialy recipes. They’ve all turned out pretty good, but the one below works best for my baking style and oven. It’s pretty much lifted from this YouTube video. Have you tried a genuine, New York bialy? 75g strong white bread flour. Tsp fast action dried yeast. 2 tsp poppy seeds. After ...

More writing …. The part time vegan. Notes and recipes from an edible garden. Time to grow, harvest & eat. Posted by The Garden Deli. Asymp; 25 Comments. The main reason I garden is to grow food herbs, vegetables, fruit, salads, seeds… yes, it’s all driven by pure greed. So come summer, with the courgette, potato and pea harvests kicking off the main season of eating from the garden, I’m at my happiest. 8221; They’re my main taste testers, so when the sauce got a “will you make this again? Lately … – Life in Mud Spattered Boots
https://annewheaton.co.uk/2015/04/15/elderflower-gin-jelly
Life in Mud Spattered Boots. April 15, 2015. Lately, we’ve been out in the fields. I walk the dog, admiring the wildflowers that splash the verges of the fields with colour and the brilliant yellow of the oilseed rape flowers against the white of the blackthorn blossom in the hedgerows, while. Bill rushes around on the tractor. There’s spraying to do, fertiliser to spread (the big bags by the barn contain fertiliser), rabbit fencing to put up …. Posted in: On the Farm. Quite Gifted: January 2013
http://quitegifted.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Monday, 28 January 2013. The pros and cons of sowing early. As I said in my last post, I've not sown this early before so I knew there was a chance that things would not go according to plan. The fact is seeds need warmth and light to germinate, two things January is not renowned for. The other day, after a major dumpage of snow, it just seemed bizarre to look at the seeds snug in their propagators with a backdrop of freezing temperatures and snow. So far they seems happy enough. And finally, our cat Im...
Quite Gifted: Elusive snails
http://quitegifted.blogspot.com/2013/06/elusive-snails.html
Wednesday, 26 June 2013. I know they are around. I've seen the signs, trails over my squash, courgettes and aubergine. I've lifted, turned, poked prodded and furtled but I cannot find the little blighters. I will find them, yes I will! Elsewhere in the garden. The asparagus peas have finally begun to flower. . The strawberries are ripening at a rate of about 2 a day at the moment. Hope to see you there. I came across your Wordpress blog yesterday and wondered what was going on. Now I know! I had a slow ...
Quite Gifted: Champagne bubbles
http://quitegifted.blogspot.com/2013/06/champagne-bubbles.html
Wednesday, 19 June 2013. It was a lovely surprise this morning to find the first of the poppies "champagne bubbles" had quite literally "popped" open. The casing that held the poppy bloom. I have to admit, I was obviously very ignorant as to how the poppy would open. Still a little bit in awe of the whole process. I have tried sowing several batches of basil with no success what so ever. I've never been a fan of basil before I came across a great pesto recipe which the kids love. And then on the 16th June.
Chilli, Coriander and Chickpea Patties — How to be a Gourmand
http://howtobeagourmand.com/chilli-coriander-and-chickpea-patties
How to be a Gourmand. Chilli, Coriander and Chickpea Patties. June 3, 2013. Chilli, Coriander and Chickpea Patties. It seems like a long time since I have posted an entry on the blog. Maybe I have just being enjoying the sunshine a bit too much of late. The days filled with sun have been few and far between here so I am making the most of it while I can before it retreats back behind the layer of clouds and the rainy season commences. The recipe has been adapted from Delia Online. Prep Time: 25 minutes.
Gooseberries and Elderflowers | shabby chick
http://www.shabbychick.me.uk/2012/06/21/gooseberries-and-elderflowers
Skip to primary content. 21 June, 2012. Isn’t it one of those wonderfully tasty timings of nature that gooseberries and elderflowers happen to be around at the same time? They work so well together in puds and both are so evocative of English summer days. The hazy, lazy sort, when you’re enjoying the garden in dappled sunlight rather than wondering how to amuse children in the rain. But it wouldn’t feel like June without at least one evening heading off across the fields to pick elderflowers for cordial&...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Tag Archives: Priscilla Queen of the Refrigerator. 31 March, 2015. Over the last few months, bread-baking has been my chosen form of hibernation. Enjoying the warmth of the kitchen while I experiment with baking sourdough, focaccia, malted grain loaves and now bagels, it all beats hiding under a pile of leaves. I’m very grateful to Celia, whose enthusiasm for baking in her fab blog, Fig Jam and Lime Cordial. Have to say though, that it isn’t as tr...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. 20 August, 2015. Kayaking in a sheltered bay, spotting dolphins and scoffing delicious food at the pizza tipi. Are some of the things I’ll remember from our recent hols. We stayed in Newport, a lovely laid-back little place on an estuary in North Pembrokeshire. You can cross the estuary at low-tide (as long as you’re happy to paddle up to the waist) to reach a long windswept beach with great waves for jumping and sand dunes to picnic in. One morning we ...
