The Global Explorer

Friday, November 7, 2014. The first offering goes to a living cow instead of a dead statue. Preparing the fruit offerings outside the Kataragama temple. The elephant wall being sort of its trademark. It might be sacred-but that obviously doesn't mean it can't be seriously branded! Hindus walking under the belly of a temple elephant three times. for luck and prosperity. And for their luck, the pilgrims also give a welcomed handout to the elephant. All the commotion takes its toll. The worlds end look out.

The Global Explorer: Touring the mangrove.

http://theglobalexplorers.blogspot.com/2014/10/touring-mangrove.html

Sunday, October 12, 2014. An overview over the mangroves from a bridge at the end of the reserves elevated boardwalk trough the forest. In safari context it is a mostly overlooked naturetype. It is often difficult to see spectacular wildlife, and the word jungle is so more sexy. Many tourists don't even know what mangrove is. The network of roots efficiently combats the forces of the rainy season and the ocean. This is along a river, but the tidal action is strong. The boardwalk trough the forest. Th...

The Global Explorer: Muine-colourfull sands and fisherfolks.

http://theglobalexplorers.blogspot.com/2014/11/muine-colourfull-sands-and-fisherfolks.html

Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Muine-colourfull sands and fisherfolks. Mui ne is not the place i normally would go to. It is a resort town-a true touristhole. Here one see more Russians than Vietnamese, and my dinner was followed by Russian popmusic over a Russian lingo menu. My reason for going here was colour. In the form of sand and soil. Mui ne has some pretty spots surrounding it. And whereever it is possible to put up a souvenir stand-there is one! Almost at the golden sanddune. Stripes in the sand.

The Global Explorer: Linh Phuoc Pagoda

http://theglobalexplorers.blogspot.com/2014/11/linh-phuoc-pagoda.html

Wednesday, November 5, 2014. Outside the highland town of Dalat, Vietnam, there is quite a special pagoda, completed only a few years ago. The Linh Phuoc pagoda isn't your average pagoda. The whole surface of praying halls, stairways and facades is covered with pieces of broken pottery. The visual result is one of colours and patterns-making it somewhat difficult to remember this is a holy place and not some sort of a Disney land creation. Some woodwork at the entrance. The Global Explorer: Hortons plain National park.

http://theglobalexplorers.blogspot.com/2014/11/hortons-plain-national-park.html

Thursday, November 6, 2014. Hortons plain National park. The worlds end look out. It was an early 0500 hours start from the hotel in Nuwara Eliya, a chilly town in the highlands, towards the Hortons plain Nationalpark. An even chillier plateauarea higher up. We drove trough pretty farmlands with tea and vegetables for quite some time before starting the steep climb towards the Hortons Plain. Almost at the plain-looking back. The farmland give way to dense forest. The locals didn't really care. It was wit...

The Global Explorer: October 2014

http://theglobalexplorers.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 26, 2014. Nobody cared about me. I could get my warm clothing away, a taxi to Negombo, a room in a hotel almost right at the beach-and finally my first Lion beer! Negombo is a fishing town along the coast north of the capital Colombo. Like most towns in these parts most of it isn't really pretty. It is the people life making it worthwhile. For some people the beach-even though that interests me zero. My first meal of Rice and Curry. Good stuff. Good stuff as well. Negombos most modern and...
