Shards: Real Astronomy
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013/07/real-astronomy.html
Wednesday, July 31, 2013. I did finally get a chance to do some real astronomy. On Peckford Island I had the luxury of a cabin to sleep in and a breezy beach to photograph from, which kept the discomforts of sleeping on the ground and the mosquitos to a minimum. It was also amazingly dark and clear out there, so I really enjoyed my night. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Shards is a summer-long project where I will be exploring the ceramic detritus of the Newfoundland landscape. During this time I...

Shards: August 2013
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 15, 2013. Of the buffalo experiment is a must read). On the away out I decided to leave it for a future visit. I met several of Simeon Snook's descendants during my few days in the area. The night before I went to Sagona there was a terrifying electrical storm over my campsite. The community is gone, but something ineffable remains. There is also a lighthouse, and though it is newer than the other buildings in the community it has also fallen into complete disrepair. And I made this imag...

Shards: Fair Island
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013/07/fair-island.html
Friday, July 26, 2013. He enjoyed hearing about my travels and my project, and was determined to give me some assistance. "Paul's Island, in Bonavista Bay, is covered with shards end to end." I like getting local knowledge in this little mission of mine. We talked until the twilight faded, when I retreated to the campsite I had scouted out earlier. There was little beach to speak of on Fair Island, just smooth granite sloping down into the sea. But sand gathered in the cracks between the rocks, and o...

Shards: June 2013
http://ceramicshards.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 30, 2013. Transportation is turning out to be more of an issue than I had imagined. I was lucky to meet Eugene who brought me to Sandy Point, and even luckier, I realize now, to have found a ride to Grand Bruit. But no matter how hard I tried, a lift from Grand Bruit to Burgeo could not be borrowed, bought or begged (and trust me, I tried all three). Saturday, June 29, 2013. They also showed me around their place (although I've been there before) and I just had to snap some pics of their sha...

Bicycle Rehabilitation Project: Best Day Yet?
http://bicyclerehabilitationproject.blogspot.com/2007/09/best-day-yet.html
News and notes about the Bicycle Rehabilitation Project. Saturday, September 29, 2007. I've spent most of the summer looking forward to today. Last night I finally slipped across the Nova Scotia - Newfoundland border and arrived in Port-Aux-Basques. I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive - after everywhere I've been and everything I've seen on this trip how would Newfoundland stack up? I remembered it - especially this southwest corner - as one if the most spectacular places I've ever been.

News and notes about the Bicycle Rehabilitation Project. Tuesday, October 09, 2007. 2005 Miele San Remo 16" touring bike - basically as I bought it off the shelf in 2005, but with the following alterations/replacements:. I replaced the entire drivetrain (cranks, chainrings, cassette, chain) immediately before the tour began because the old parts were badly worn. I also did a complete cable and housing overhaul immediately before leaving Vancouver. Rear rack - Bor Yueh. 1 red MEC turtle blinkie. Pillow - ...
