the growing boy

Wednesday, 18 May 2011. Sunday, 15 May 2011. Ok, please bear with me here. I know. This blog has been a mass of stop/starts, changing roughs and long periods of total silence. It's basically the book blog equivalent of being hopelessly lost on a country road without a map. Probably in the dark. Near a sinister tree. With an owl. This image is a good example. Here's the rough:. And here's the finished illustration:. Not what I meant at all. I wish I could be more specific. There was something strangely un...

the growing boy: July 2010

http://www.thegrowingboy.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, 17 July 2010. Distracted by a giant turnip. You might think I've been neglecting the growing boy a bit of late. and you'd be right. I do have some new roughs which take the story in a slightly different direction, but for now I'm busy beavering away on illustrations for a book of children's dramas. You can see what I've been up to here. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The growth of my children's book from tiny seedling. give me sun, give me dirt, give me water. Saturday, 17 October 2009. Forgot to mention it on here too - I'm giving away a print. Over on Scribbles in Ink. The detail above (currently my profile pic) comes from the bigger illustration. If you'd like a chance to own it, hop on over! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The growth of my children's book from tiny seedling. give me sun, give me dirt, give me water. the growing boy: November 2009

http://www.thegrowingboy.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 3 November 2009. The joys of illustrating and the mystery of the stairs that go nowhere. Who knew a degree in architecture would have come in handy for this book? Unfortunately for me I do not possess such a qualification. I cannot see where these stairs can possibly lead! Time to get out and about with my camera for reference, methinks! Aha, or maybe the addition of a landing midway up the stairs. Monday, 2 November 2009. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Designer, illustrator, procrastinator.

the growing boy: July 2009

http://www.thegrowingboy.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 29 July 2009. Can you dig it? The thumbnails are coming thick and fast, I'm finally working out the exact details of how the beginning gets to the middle and the middle to the end! It seems obvious I know but, while the bare bones of the story have been quite clear to me for some time it hasn't always been so clear how to say everything I want to in each spread. Although the text is quite minimal, the pictures have to convey much more than the words themselves. Tuesday, 28 July 2009. It's been...

the growing boy: April 2009

http://www.thegrowingboy.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 7 April 2009. The growing boy, take two. I've begun the new roughs for the growing boy book. Tiny, tiny thumbnails to start with, trying to get a feel for how the book is going to work as a whole. I'm not sure I want to stick with realism though, I have a feeling it might yet be quite everyday with a hint of the fantastical - my favourite kind of mundane. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friday, 16 May 2014. Aberdeen, Stonehaven. Milan! My Blessings print continues its global conquest, this time heading off to Milan (London, Paris and New York next perhaps? As this sale came from my collection of cards and prints available over on cloth nappy specialists The Nappy Laundry Company. Owner Nicole insisted on an 'artist signing the print' picture - can you tell she had a previous life in PR? Less cultural and hairy, but more delicious! Links to this post. Monday, 12 May 2014. http://scribblesinink.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 10 February 2015. Almost done with Morse, the book goes to print this month and most of the illustrations are already with the publisher. Just a couple more to go, phew. Links to this post. Originally about me leaving behind the cut throat world of corporate design and becoming a freelance illustrator, I guess it's become more of an outlet for my random musings. mostly nonsense I'm afraid, but vaguely peppered with a rare moment of clarity. Wednesday, 17 September 2014. After two years of badgering everyone I've met (and now known as a 'militant' yes at work! The indy ref is on us! Feeling hugely optimistic now and, although it's 50/50 and nothing's certain, I'm so excited, the next two nights will be sleepless for sure. The pic is J's badge (he's gone from no to firm yes. I haven't had the heart yet to tell him he's too young to vote. He will be coming with me to the polling station though! And it makes me want to cry! Links to this post.

The Carter Family

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Published by Gabe, Amber, Jada and Micah Carter under on 2:00 PM. Micah with Daddy on his first birthday. Our little man is already one year old. It's crazy how fast his first little year went by. Micah is doing phenomenal. He is so. He's fully mastered the art of signing "please" and "thank you", which I'm very proud of; my boy has learned some manners! Now to just keep it up. :-). He adores his big sister and just lights up whenever she enters the room.
