This past year I was at an instrument show, a guitar show to be more precise. I enjoy the old familiar products, the aroma from old tube amps, and the multitude of blues licks ringing through the air. During this time several dealers are trading, buying, hustling each other. If there was a horse somewhere, it would not have surprised me one bit! These old boys would have traded it too, for a 69′ Strat, no doubt. The best piece of advice for custom builders. You know your craft! Practice Tips for Musicians.

Competition and Quality | The Guitar Broker

As a new player embarks he guitarists journey, the newbie player may be instigated to look for name brands instead of looking at value and quality. There are multi-thousand manufacturers out there looking for you the player. In efforts to have you play their instruments, the manufacturers compete for your interest. This competition is apparent with the beginner instruments, for less than $200.00 you can find guitars that just play right, sound good, and have amazing visual appeal. Feed for this Entry.
Change your strings | The Guitar Broker
https://theguitarbroker.wordpress.com/2009/09/14/change-your-strings
When do you change the strings on your axe? When this question pops up, most likely it is time to change. Frugal players tend to get a standard pack of strings to last somewhere around 6-8 weeks. But players like myself that play more than 10 hours a week find that changing strings is a 3-5 time weekly event. Essentially, your strings are your tone, dead strings have very little brilliance. Often suggested, just changing one broken string leaves an unbalanced feel to the instrument. If it has been a ...
What should I know about the instructor | The Guitar Broker
https://theguitarbroker.wordpress.com/2009/09/15/what-should-i-know-about-the-instructor
What should I know about the instructor. It’s quite simple. A few points to qualify an instructor. 1-Does the instructor have a certification or degree of any sort? 2-Are they knowledgeable about music? 3-Does the student understand the instructor? 4-Does the instructor have a lesson plan? 5-Is the instructor trust worthy (important for kids, there are some real strange dangerous people out there)? 6-Is the price equal to the service? 8-Is the instructor punctual, polite, and personable? The Minor Scale(s) | Jnacc's Music Blog
https://jnaccmusic.wordpress.com/2009/10/21/the-minor-scales
Jnacc's Music Blog. Music theory, lessons and reviews. Now that I have covered intervals, we can go into what the minor scale is. In theory, a minor scale is a scale that contains a minor third (m3) from the tonic. Is the starting note of the scale. You may have noticed that the title contains an “s” after scale, and that is because there is in fact multiple minor scales. The first one that we will look at is known as the natural minor scale (Aeolian mode.). The Natural Minor Scale. Are two notes that ha...

Jnacc's Music Blog. Music theory, lessons and reviews. I know I said my next lesson would be the minor scale, but I’ve concluded that the understanding of intervals is something that will help understand these scales better. These intervals are described by the number of semitones apart, which was touched on in the previous lesson. Of S-t Name Example. 0 Perfect Unison (P1) Happy Birthday. 1 Minor Second (m2) Jaws. 2 Major Second (M2) “Do-Re”. 3 Minor Third (m3) Smoke on the Water. Diabolus in musica,.

https://jnaccmusic.wordpress.com/2009/10/20/ionian-the-major-scale
Jnacc's Music Blog. Music theory, lessons and reviews. Ionian: The Major Scale. Now that we know what a semitone is, the Major Scale follows the pattern of 2:2:1:2:2:2:1. This translates as the C Major Scale as being C D E F G A B C. (E-F and B-C being the only notes one semitone apart, while the rest are two.). For reference, all of the Major Scales will be listed below, grouped wether they contain sharps(#) or flats(b). F# Maj: F#, G#, A#, B, C#, D#, E#, F#. C# Maj: C#, D#, E#, F#, G#, A#, B#, C#.
The Basic Chords | Jnacc's Music Blog

Jnacc's Music Blog. Music theory, lessons and reviews. Now that I have covered the basics of scales, I wanted to cover some chords. Is a set of at least three different notes that are played simultaneously. Thusly, a Major chord is a chord that contains the root, a major third, and a perfect fifth. Is simply the starting note of the chord. In comparison, a diminished chord is essentially a minor chord with a lowered fifth. This gives it a pattern of 3:3, using a root, a minor third, and a diminished ...
