The Halal Food Project

Sunday, May 27, 2012. Appum and Pappadum from a Myaree Mamak. How we love small, unassuming cafes with amazing food! Off Leach Highway in Myaree is a place called Spice Express, which sells Singaporean Indian food. We were there on Saturday afternoon, around 1.15pm and the place was overflowing with customers. The reason was more than clear at first bite. The chicken biryani was mild but delicious, and came with raita, dhal and a pappadum. We savoured each bite of every dish. The Halal Food Project.

The Halal Food Project: Ahoy angler!

http://thehalalfoodproject.blogspot.com/2012/02/ahoy-angler.html

Thursday, February 16, 2012. We love Chinese food and as there is no halal option in Perth (apart from fully vegetarian restaurants), we have to cook it ourselves. A simple and healthy favorite is steamed fish. Fresh whole fish (we used tailor caught off South Mole jetty in Fremantle), lots of ginger, chilies, flat leafed parsley and sauce made of olive oil, vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, white pepper and brown sugar. Fresh blueberries and vanilla yoghurt ended the meal. The Halal Food Project. The Hala...

The Halal Food Project: December 2011

http://thehalalfoodproject.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 26, 2011. Ho Ho Ho Berry Christmas! December in the southern hemisphere is in the summer. Stone fruits, being the fruity flavour of the season, commonly end up in our holiday period dessert dishes. A friend's Christmas BBQ saw us arrive with a plate of custard tarts topped with these colourful season’s offerings. The cherries did not make it onto the tiny mountains of whipped cream (cue satisfied borborygmi). The Halal Food Project. Saturday, December 24, 2011. We brought lamb skewers an...

The Halal Food Project: January 2012

http://thehalalfoodproject.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 28, 2012. The City of Perth has been holding twilight hawkers markets at Forrest Place very Friday evening from 1700 to 2000 until March 2012. We stumbled upon it on Friday and took the opportunity to try a few things. The food we had was nothing to shout about. The chicken satay was nice but we wished the peanut sauce wasn’t so pallid and sugary. We didn’t stay long but apparently there are usually performances to liven up the atmosphere. The Halal Food Project: Decadent Diet

http://thehalalfoodproject.blogspot.com/2012/05/decadent-diet.html

Tuesday, May 15, 2012. Genesis in the Hills is a vegetarian restaurant tucked amongst lush greenery in Roleystone, approximately 35km southeast of Perth. We sat on the verandah where the verdant foliage hid the traffic from our view. It was lunchtime and the restaurant was packed! We also had the grilled polenta with mushrooms, baby spinach, avocadoes in a creamy sauce. The grilled polenta was deliciously crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The creamy sauce was a winner. The Halal Food Project.
