The Art of Existence [in Hamilton]. Saturday, March 12, 2011. Should Art be the New Steel? Zollverein Coking Plant, modern works swimming-pool in industrial surroundings, Essen. Photo: Manfred Vollmer. The images in the city of Essen, taken by Vollmer, depict the architectural landscapes of former industrial sites that have been transformed into cultural landmarks and centers (examples shown above and below). These were contrasted against 18 images of Hamilton, produced by Studio 12. I think it means dif...

Thoughts and Ramblings: November 2011
http://ren4mayor.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Rene Gauthier has too much to say. But he leaves the important stuff on this blog! Wednesday, November 30, 2011. It seems that failed Ontario PC candidate Geordie Elms does a new job after all. He was recently hired by the Hamilton mayor's office to be Bob Bratina's senior advisor on military heritage and protocol. Now think about that for a moment. Why not a veteran from one of the Hamilton units, like the RHLI? Even Sam Merulla was speechless and that guy always has something to say about anything....

Thoughts and Ramblings: Meet Johnny Heisman
http://ren4mayor.blogspot.com/2012/12/meet-johnny-heisman.html
Rene Gauthier has too much to say. But he leaves the important stuff on this blog! Monday, December 10, 2012. Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel now belongs to a brotherhood like no other. He is now a Heisman trophy quarterback. I'm sure everyone knew that barring a major catastrophe, the trophy was his. And that brings about another one of those uncomfortable truths of college football. Defense, of course. College football has been consistently behind the times and can barely find the way forward....

Rene Gauthier has too much to say. But he leaves the important stuff on this blog! Wednesday, January 11, 2012. A Modest Proposal to the BCS. Did you know that there were 35 bowl games played this year? So the first round of 8 games would lead up to the week before Christmas, then the 8 games of the second and first consolation round would lead before Christmas. The semi-final round would be New Year's Day and the Rose, Sugar, Fiesta and Orange Bowls would have the semi final and consolation games. So in...

Thoughts and Ramblings: Severe, but Appropriate

Rene Gauthier has too much to say. But he leaves the important stuff on this blog! Tuesday, July 24, 2012. Severe, but Appropriate. Yes, this goes beyond everything I suggested, but the intent behind these punitive sanctions is very much there. As much as I hated to say it, they needed to be hit hard. After all, this situation up to now was unprecedented. And a lot of us know that this is merely the tip of the iceberg. For that reason, Penn State is being punished for the actions of their previous admini...

The sooner we realize this, the sooner we will understand that such ideologies should be confronted with the same level of ferocity as they have used in dividing us in the first place. Rene Gauthier has too much to say. But he leaves the important stuff on this blog! Friday, May 31, 2013. On the Passing of Bob Barlow. Wednesday night seemed normal. Nothing exciting. Nothing special. Then I got the message from my friend, Scott Marshall (yeah, that guy from CWD! Bob had a heart attack on the way to a ball game. He didn't come back. Bob Barlow had died at the age of 47. That spring in 1988, a star was born and his name was Scott Marshall. But I digress. When Hamilton amalgamated, he ran ...
