The Hard Way Home

Thursday, May 8, 2014. This was a long, cold, hard winter. By many accounts, it was the coldest and longest winter in decades in these parts. Weeks went by when we didn't hit the freezing mark, and many days we were lucky to hit 10 above zero! So, did our straw-clay infill house keep us warm? Give me 72 degrees, please! These walls seem to absorb the heat and radiate with warmth all day long. It is truly a pleasure to live within these earthen walls. Links to this post. Wednesday, July 24, 2013. After fi...

The Hard Way Home: Closer, bit by bit...

http://thehardwayhome.blogspot.com/2013/05/closer-bit-by-bit.html

Tuesday, May 21, 2013. Closer, bit by bit. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Jason and I were married on a bright, sunny day in 2007. Since then we have been on one adventure after another right in our backyard: growing food, building a timber-frame house, raising pigs and chickens, and learning all that we can as we go along. Who knew staying at home could be so exciting! Closer, bit by bit. Simple template. Powered by Blogger.

The Hard Way Home: February 2012

http://thehardwayhome.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 28, 2012. In other exciting news on the house front. Our chandelier arrived over the weekend! This will go over our dining room table. I have always loved pretty chandeliers, but I didn't originally think that we would put one in the new house. Then I saw this and there was no going back! I think this will be very beautiful in our wood and clay house! I know, I know! But we will get there! Links to this post. Thursday, February 23, 2012. In the backyard waiting to be moved inside. The Hard Way Home: What's New?

http://thehardwayhome.blogspot.com/2013/02/whats-new.html

Monday, February 25, 2013. So much is new! Since that last time I posted in October (October? Many new things have happened. Biggest and best of all, we welcomed a new little person to our family. She is keeping us busy! And on the house front, so much has happened, too. This is what the house is looking like from the outside right now:. On the inside, a couple of big things are new: we now have base cabinets and plumbing. Yes! Running water and everything! Your house is so beautiful!

The Hard Way Home: We did it!

http://thehardwayhome.blogspot.com/2013/07/we-did-it.html

Wednesday, July 24, 2013. After five long years, we moved into our beautiful home on July 7. In some ways I cannot believe we are finally living, sleeping and eating here, but in other ways it seems like we were always here. It must be the tremendous number of hours we devoted to hand building this place. There are so many people to thank for helping us accomplish this project:. My sister, Laura, for designing such a sweet, not-so-big, but perfectly delightful house;. To my mother-in-law, Joan, for alway...

It has become a tradition for parents and townspeople to gather in the schoolyard as students arrive for their first day at the two room Ashley Bryan School. Everyone is there to wish them well, to see who the new students are, and to feel good about our special island school and its community support. Vrijdag 21 januari 2011. Those who know me, know that Sheer Terror is one my favorite bands. Their style changed quite a lot from Celtic Frost influenced hardcore to punk rock influenced hardcore, but I gotta say I love each album of them. I couldn't even say which one is my favorite. Anyway, I'm at work, so I'm not going to write an extensive blog here. What I want to say is, come to tomorrow's show in Antwerpen! You won't regret it. See you in the pit. Zondag 19 september 2010. I got something to say:.
