Origin of the Name 'Hatton'. Frank Hatton (April 28, 1846 April 30, 1894) was an American politician and newspaperman. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio and worked in the newspaper business in Burlington, Iowa. Identifying himself with the Republican Party, primarily the Stalwart faction, and was ardent foe of civil service reform. He served as Assistant Postmaster General before being promoted to Postmaster General in the cabinet of Chester A. Arthur in 1884.

The last poled ferry in the United States of America. Established 1870. Hatton Ferry" asks for donations of $5 per person and $10 per vehicle to ride the ferry. All donations go towards the upkeep, maintenance and continuation of the running of the ferry. The Hatton Ferry is owned and operated by "Hatton Ferry", a non-profit group consisting of members from Albemarle and Buckingham Counties. All donations are tax deductible.
