The Hidden Place: On the Ardnamurchan peninsula...

http://thehiddenplaceproject.blogspot.com/2009/05/on-ardnamurchan-peninsula.html

Monday, 4 May 2009. On the Ardnamurchan peninsula. On the Ardnamurchan peninsula, rivers, streams and burns are often accompanied by road signs giving their names in Gaelic. While pointing to the presence and importance of water, this practice beautifully illustrates how place is particularised, marked and preserved by language. Abhainn Glac na h-Eaglais' is the 'Stream of the Hollow of the Church' and 'Allt Torr na Moine' is 'Burn of the Peat Mound'. Thomas A Clark, May 2009. The Hidden Place, Falkland.

Off the beaten track. The Hidden Place at Masinagudi is wild, remote and irresistible, a magnet for conservationists and nature lovers. The cottage sits in a Jungle Book like clearing, a jeep-ride away from gorgeous, untrammeled landâ Â The eco-green hue of the building among enough shrubbery is enough to feel the jungle is right at the door step.
