As Thanksgiving is over, we look forward to the end of the semester and the start of Christmas break. Students are finishing up their studies and it is cool to see the sense of accomplishment they are starting to feel as their first college semester has nearly come to an end. Shannon also is wrapping up her first semester of teaching at the local elementary school. It is fun when she comes home and recalls the innocent but humorous comments that her little ones make. Flying to High School Camp. About a month ago, I (Sean) lead a group of two staff and two students traveled to the village of Elim and helped CYAK (Covenant Youth of Alaska) lead a high school retreat for village students. We helped lead small groups, assisted in the worship service as well as games and activities for the students of Elim and the surrounding villages. The MacArthur New Testament Commentary: Matthew 1-7. Be Loyal: Following the King of Kings. This reading was a bit more academic, although I was reading it for pleasure. This Fall Chris and I studied the book of Matthew in the Bible inductively. Each week after I studied the assigned chapters, I would then read Wiersbe’s commentary on each chapter. But we recognize that the Lord gave Chris this awesome job this past year and it is within His right to take it away. March 2, 2010. This is my spangly new bluetooth I got for my birthday! My BFF picked it up for my man and it is so cute – it is purple to match my phone! This present came just in time for me to make some parent phone calls on behalf of my principal (which was great because the extra money I am earning doing that made up for the additional furlough days). March 4, 2010. I share this, not to complain, but to share how God has provided in spite of such a huge monthly hit! This month I have been able to do some paid tutoring at school. Then I was asked to contact nearly 300 parents for my principal and I would get paid for my time in doing this! The parent contact hasn’t been exactly “fun”, but the tutoring hasn’t been so bad.
