Steven Carlin was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts. He spent his early years working as a veterinary technician at his father’s veterinary clinic in Brookline, Massachusetts. Steven graduated Pedigree School of Dog Grooming in 1978, and in 1979 opened Skipton Kennel Shoppe, a grooming salon on Huntington Avenue in Boston.
