Despite spending the same amount of time in Ontario as in Dallas, Elaine's first week in Canada was not as relaxing as her first week in the States. We arrived at the Toronto airport late after a canceled flight and then didn't leave the Toronto airport for over an hour because of a mix-up with the rental car agency. Melanie, Drew and Elaine Lewis. Thursday, 31 July 2008. We did eventually make it to Ottawa where Elaine got to meet her first and oldest first cousins. On our visit, we watched Emma play soccer. Ellie read some disturbing short stories by Ben Okri to Elaine and Charlotte. We went for a long walk along the river to play on a nice playground. And generally hung around the house. Elaine got to see the Ottawa clan a few weeks later in Nova Scotia, which was our next stop. Melanie and Drew Lewis.

Melanie, Drew and Elaine Lewis. Friday, 23 May 2008. There was a comment earlier about the size of Elaine's cheeks. This is a genetic trait, apparently. Melanie calls it the "Smith cheeks". They seem to flourish mainly between months 2 and about 15, from what I can gather. Here are Elaine's cousins in that time frame with Smith blood. See for yourself if the cheeks are genetic:.
