Wanderings & Wonderings: Beasts of Burden - Jaipur, India 092710
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2010/11/beasts-of-burden-jaipur-india-092710.html
Sunday, November 7, 2010. Beasts of Burden - Jaipur, India 092710. After Oliver devoured an entire bowl of porridge and mashed banana, our driver picked up for our trip to the Amber Fort. Guess what? He had a copy of the state newspaper with our photo on the front cover! On the way, we stopped to watch a snake charmer and his cobra. He told me to touch the head of the cobra, saying "It's okay - poisons removed". Yeah, right - not a chance, dude. Only Snake Charmer We Saw in India. The architectural detai...

Wanderings & Wonderings: Kalman, Here We Come!
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2011/05/kalman-here-we-come.html
Sunday, May 29, 2011. Kalman, Here We Come! After a morning of confusing miscommunication and several trips back and forth to the bus stop, we were finally picked up in a small SUV at our hotel and taken to Kalman. What had started out as a rather frustrating day, turned out to be a great experience, as ICRISAT's field worker at Kalman was terrific in his role as interpreter. Rooftop view of village. Children that kept returning to their doorway to get me to wink. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Wanderings & Wonderings
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2013/07/wow.html
Thursday, July 11, 2013. Wow I guess I have been busy! Have not written for a long time, but today just want to share a funny video with a friend. Perhaps I'll get back at this. I got the giggles watching these little bugs in the desert near Jaiselmer, India, in September 2010. Note that there are 3 beetles: one doing all the work (guessing that to be the female), one protecting the big chunk of camel dung (guessing that to be the male), and the interloper, attempting to steal the precious manure.

Wanderings & Wonderings: Golconda Fort and Pearl Shopping
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2011/03/golconda-fort-and-pearl-shopping.html
Wednesday, March 16, 2011. Golconda Fort and Pearl Shopping. On February 4, Ali, Oliver, and I headed into Hyderabad to tour the Golconda Fort. It was an impressive structure, built into the rocky hillside, and offering commanding views of the city. The ICRISAT Ganesh, saffron-colored today. I am saddened when visiting these wonderful historic sites to see garbage thrown around. I haven't been able to wrap my mind around it, because seriously, it was not the tourists that I saw litter. Oh, well. And all ...

Wanderings & Wonderings: Ellora Caves Photos
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2011/06/ellora-caves-photos.html
Saturday, June 4, 2011. Since "a picture paints a thousand words", I'm off the hook on this blog entry.hehehe. Does this just blow your mind, or what? Oliver on Nandee, Shiva's bull. (I am assuming he was not made into a steer). Everything was so ornate, so intricate, so utterly amazing. Those monks certainly knew their curves. Yes, I did get a whistle blown at me. View from atop the famous Cave 16. Buying delicious spices and nuts in a shop in Aurangabad. Yes, I am fascinated with arches.

Wanderings & Wonderings: June 2011
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 17, 2011. Sunny and Hot Colorado. Since the 13th of June, I have been in Colorado, preparing for the next chapter in my life. I'm excited, but understandably a little scared, too. There's no way of knowing whether I am making the right decision at this point - or not. I just feel like I have been given an opportunity to live out west where I have wanted to go for some time now. Plus, I know that if I do not try this, I will always wonder, "What if? Here's to a daring adventure! Yes, I did ge...

Wanderings & Wonderings: First Wandering in Patancheru
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2011/01/first-wandering-in-patancheru.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. First Wandering in Patancheru. Pantancheru, Andra Pradesh, India 01.15.11. It is sunny and warm here - about 81 degrees Fahrenheit - a great reprieve from Minnesota winter! So a walk gave us an excuse for some exercise and an attempt to get Oliver back on his napping schedule. He always falls asleep when in motion, whether in a baby wrap, a back pack carrier, or a rickshaw. Here's some views of the ICRISAT headquarters and test fields:. Later that afternoon, we ventured out for ...

After all the wrestling and thwarted theft attempt of the previous video, this video shows the beetles digging out a new home for their dung.

Wanderings & Wonderings: First Night in Indian 09.14.10
http://loritews.blogspot.com/2010/10/first-night-in-india.html
Monday, October 25, 2010. First Night in Indian 09.14.10. What a day it has been! Actually more than “a day” when one factors in the time changes…). When my son-in-law, Juan, dropped me off at MSP, an evacuation of the terminal, including the American Airlines area, had been called. The TSA staff didn’t seem too concerned, so I decided then and there that it was no portent of what was to come…. Just a minor oversight on my part regarding my laptop…. Upon landing and disembarking, I felt for the first tim...
