The Inquisitive Weaver

Thursday, 3 July 2014. MY BLOG HAS MOVED! Hey everyone, my blog has moved to my website! You can find it here: THE INQUISITIVE WEAVER BLOG. I hope to see you over there :). Saturday, 8 March 2014. Fibres of my Heart. Today I spent the afternoon relaxing and getting creative! I lifted out my scraps of fibre and my drum carder and had some fun. Fibre ready to use! Fibre on the drumcarder. I then made some hearts from the handspun yarn. I love the hippy art yarn look to the hearts :). A book binding break.

The Inquisitive Weaver: February 2014

http://www.theinquisitiveweaver.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, 20 February 2014. A book binding break. So last week was a little holiday for me, I needed it badly. I am feeling much happier, although I seemed to have spent the week fighting a bug. I guess that's just what happens when you start to relax. I enjoyed jumping back on top of my little business on Monday but I really enjoyed the week off! At the same time I am drawing little illustrations to accompany the story. I'm not sure what style of drawing I want to do but I like kawaii manga best :).

The Inquisitive Weaver: November 2013

http://www.theinquisitiveweaver.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Thursday, 28 November 2013. Weaving again at Wickerwool. This Tuesday at wickerwool knit and natter, Ginny brought her four shaft table loom again, since we spent the time last week putting it together and giving it a bit of a clean, it was time to show her how to wind a warp and warp the loom! Ginny picked it up quickly and within no time I was showing her where to tie the warp before we took it over to the loom! The reed was then threaded after the heddles and the ends tied on to the front. Time to...

Thursday, 13 February 2014. I have many leather bound books. Today I made a little leather bound book. I followed the great tutorial you can find on making my rent. It's so cute, I'm going to illustrate the inside with nautical themed pictures. Here are some pictures as I'm not feeling very wordy today! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Inquisitive Weaver: Colour gamps

http://www.theinquisitiveweaver.blogspot.com/2014/03/colour-gamps.html

Saturday, 8 March 2014. I love colour, it think when you make something it's often the colour that matters the most. I came across this article on Pinterest from Weavezine on colour gamps. It has three beautiful patterns for colour camps and lots of information. So go check it out for inspiration! I only wish lunatic fringe yarn was cheaper in the UK! As I would buy all the colours and do it myself! Here is the link. http:/ weavezine.com/content/color-gamps. Have you woven a colour gamp? YarnMaker no&#46...

First Woven Handspun! – Lazykate Textile Artist

https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/first-woven-handspun

May 25, 2014. A few posts back I posted photos of handspun yarn I’d spun to use in my first attempt at weaving. Although I was incredibly excited about starting weaving, I felt overwhelmed with the whole weaving process, it’s a pretty full on skill and I didn’t want to be a butterfly- fluttering around many crafts and not becoming proficient in any. Also, any spare headspace was taken up with Spinning and Dyeing classes, family and other responsibilities (not necessarily in order of importance). 9 though...

Pushing out of a Purple Patch – Lazykate Textile Artist

https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/06/10/pushing-out-of-a-purple-patch

Pushing out of a Purple Patch. June 10, 2014. June 10, 2014. The second Lazykate Spin In was just wonderful, we almost couldn’t fit everyone in! It was a cathartic way to spend an afternoon – with others who share a passion. We did allow a crocheter and a feltmaker in, and there was drum carding too so if you’d like to pop along next time and you do something slightly connected to spinning, we’d love to see you. Http:/ www.thewoolboat.co.uk. I’ll report back on how it dries- off to mix some greens! Fill ...

Lazykate Textile Artist – Page 2

Is it always healthy to work alone? November 26, 2014. November 28, 2014. I was privileged on Monday to be able to go to work with my friend Paula of Paulafingers Contemporary Ceramics. Paula has a studio in Liverpool and it was interesting to be able to work in a space that wasn’t connected to a house, like mine is. While Paula’s studio is a space surrounded by other artists, often they work outside normal working hours and so Paula, like me spends hours working alone. How can it be improved? Anyway, a ...

Creative Textiles class at Knit Wise – Lazykate Textile Artist

https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/11/21/creative-textiles-class-at-knit-wise

Creative Textiles class at Knit Wise. November 21, 2014. November 21, 2014. Well I see the NHS claiming that the Flu jab program for this year is a success and having had the combined flu and pneumonia jab this week I can only think this is because it’s killing people before they can get the flu! Anyway, a few days off wasn’t so bad, it certainly got the creative ideas flowing. But what do we do with all these experiments? We might love the things we create but how to use them? The beauty of this class i...

Spin and Dye Weekend. October 31, 2016. This past weekend was really exciting for me, I joined with Justine from The Wild Dyery to create a workshop where we would teach spinning on day one and then go on the following day to dye the handspun skeins with natural dyes. We met in Saturday morning, Rosie, Gill, Fiona, Jean and Anne. Then there is a eureka moment when the penny drops, the hands catch up with the brain and calm begins to reign. June 13, 2016. We decided to have a taster day at Knit Wise, one ...

https://cathylazykate.wordpress.com/2014/12/08/254

Alysn Midgleow Martin Workshop. December 8, 2014. December 10, 2014. So after my last post about working alone, I was plunged into working among a group. I attended Alysn Midgelow Martin’s personal statement workshop at Art Van Go in Hertfordshire. I had a five and a half hour drive through rush hour and fog and stayed in a Bed and Breakfast with a shared bathroom where you weren’t allowed to use the bath but hey, no pain no gain. We started with monoprinting on paper. Alysn was a very helpful, hands on ...

Sketching for Inspiration – Lazykate Textile Artist

November 3, 2014. November 4, 2014. Sketching, I believe is an important part of creating. And because I believe it I usually have a sketchbook or notepad in my bag at all times. Most of them end up something like this. A great place to store a shopping list. If I’m feeling very creative it might end up like this. A holiday list. With bunting. Http:/ www.textileartist.org/bren-boardman-on-mind-maps-and-sketchbooks/. I found out that they are Rudbeckia or Black Eyed Susan seed heads. These happy littl...
