The Insulin Crowd

Saturday, February 15, 2014. Finally, four months later . . . a baby! My final A1C before going in to have my baby was 5.6. My blood sugars throughout my entire pregnancy were immaculate. My baby NEVER measured large during the entire pregnancy, and at my last check up, my doctor guessed that she would be in the range of 7 lbs. And mine were perfect. So, who knows? Also, how come when other women have 9 lb babies, people don't say a thing about it, but as soon as a diabetic has a normal sized baby, they ...

The Insulin Crowd: October 2011

http://theinsulincrowd.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 23, 2011. A Big Thank You! The walk was a success! Ben and I ended up raising over $300 between the two of us. He beat out my fundraising total by $10 right at the very end, because his stinking co-workers started donating! Oh well, I can't complain too much, because it all goes to a good cause. The walk on Saturday was tons of fun. Ben's company had a huge team out walking, and it was great to be surrounded by "my people" who just get it. We'll definitely participate again next year!

The Insulin Crowd: July 2013

http://theinsulincrowd.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 19, 2013. On Why I'm Glad I'm Not An Elephant. Did you know that elephants have a two year gestational period? Not to mention having to give birth to one? Not my idea of a good time! So here's what's going on these days:. Near Constant Insulin Adjustment. They weren't kidding when they said you'd be adjusting things weekly, if not more often! This kid . . . so fickle! Well, it turns out that this can also slow down digestion, which has been giving me some trouble with managing my blood sugar...

The Insulin Crowd: August 2012

http://theinsulincrowd.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 23, 2012. Battery Caps and Needle Nose Pliers at 2am. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love and adore my insulin pump. But a few weeks ago we had a teensy weensy incident that ended up being one of those comedy of errors things that made me realize how ridiculous technology is sometimes. Let me set the scene for you:. I know that I only have about 30 minutes of power left in my battery, so I end up on the phone with Animas' tech support at 2am. (Thank goodness for 24 hour support! At 2 a...

The Insulin Crowd: Heading Down the Home Stretch!

http://theinsulincrowd.blogspot.com/2013/09/heading-down-home-stretch.html

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Heading Down the Home Stretch! So, I'm not really into sports metaphors, but "Heading Down the Home Stretch" seemed pretty fitting in this case. Actually, I'm not exactly certain if this is a baseball metaphor or a horse racing metaphor (that's how bad I am at sports metaphors), but suffice it to say, I'm smack dab in the middle of my last few weeks of pregnancy. So, here's what's been going on:. Right at about week 36 I started having tons of lows, and needed to cut my insul...

Spink Bottles: November 2011

http://spinkbottles.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Oh man, it's been a busy couple of weeks. And it's going to get even busier! But I just wanted to let you all know a few things that are going on. 1 I'm blogging for Diabetes Awareness Month again, on my other blog http:/ theinsulincrowd.blogspot.com/. I wanted to do it daily, but that is just not. Going to happen this month! 2 I'm going to be driving to North Carolina on Monday all by myself! 3 Did I mention I'm teaching piano lessons now? But, right now I'm reveling in it&#...

Spink Bottles: July 2013

http://spinkbottles.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 6, 2013. That this child will be born with a gigantic port wine stain over some extremely visible part of its body. That the child will, in fact, not be a "she" but a "he/she" and that we'll have to "decide" what gender the baby will be later on at some point in its life. That I'm going to get hit by every single other car on the road as I'm out driving around. Aaaaaand, that's about it for now. Irrational fears, people! Tuesday, July 2, 2013. The biggest new thing= I'm Pregnant! I'm due i...

Spink Bottles: Almost a Year!

http://spinkbottles.blogspot.com/2013/07/almost-year.html

Tuesday, July 2, 2013. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I've updated my personal blog. Ridiculous! So much has happened, and yet so much is exactly the same, though. Here's a quick update on our lives over the past year. The biggest new thing= I'm Pregnant! I'm writing all about this whole thing over on my diabetes blog. So feel free to hop on over there and check it out. But since most of the readers of this blog follow me over there already anyway, you won't have to! I'm sure a lot more st...

The Insulin Chronicles – Notes from a 50+ Year Diabetes Survivor

Notes from a 50 Year Diabetes Survivor. August 14, 2015. Abracadabra: Why Insulin Sparks Awe and Wonder. June 19, 2015. The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious, wrote Albert Einstein. Whoever does not know it and can no longer wonder, no longer marvel, is as good as dead. After I had thought of the song. So I have been quite surprised, lately, not only because I am able to feel wonder, but because of its unlikely source: the inner workings of my diabetic body. (more here). In other wo...
