Returning to The Way. Laquo; Who should we be listening to? Restarting The Blog ». June 13, 2007. A note to pastors and teachers. While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out of the cloud said, This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him! When the disciples heard this, they fell face down to the ground and were terrified. And Jesus came to them and touched them and said, Get up, and do not be afraid. When you teach, is it from His teachings?

Jesus-Centric Christianity: The Problem with (our view of) the Bible

Returning to The Way. Laquo; A Few Final Thoughts on Paul. Who should we be listening to? April 17, 2007. The Problem with (our view of) the Bible. One thing that has bothered me for a while - and I know some of you think I'm. Bothered - is that Christians view the books of the Bible as all equal. And what I mean is really that most Christians see any study as being a good study. Now I won't argue too long with that. I do think it's all in some way profitable. But. Now maybe they wouldn't throw rocks....

Jesus-Centric Christianity: The Oral Tradition in the First Congregations

Returning to The Way. Laquo; Church or Congregation? So what was this Oral Tradition? January 29, 2012. The Oral Tradition in the First Congregations. A little know fact among most church-goers today: the Gospels as we know them didnt come into written existence for at least 40 years after the resurrection. Seriously. How can that be? Is it really true the congregation at Rome (and all the other first century Christians) had no Gospel? No politics, no building funds, no great worship productions, etc...

Returning to The Way. March 01, 2007. The Truth about Paul, part 2. Ever heard of Holy Oral Tradition? The Hebrews had just such a convention. And I believe it's one of the missing links in our study of the earliest Christianity. If I want to know what He said, I can just go and look it up. Yes, we're more advanced than ever. Since the first Christians didn't have 5 Bibles for every believer, or even one for that matter, how did they know about Jesus, His words and His deeds? Most all theologians agree t...

Six days later Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John his brother, and led them up on a high mountain by themselves. Jesus-Centric Christianity: February 2007

Returning to The Way. March 2007 ». February 19, 2007. The Truth about Paul, etc. You won't hear what I'm going to tell you from your pastor. He probably hasn't even thought about it. Here is a great mystery:. Paul virtually never quoted Jesus or spoke of His earthly deeds in his Epistles. This even though he called Him Master and Lord, meaning that he considered Jesus his authoritative example. Doesn't this strike anyone else as nothing short of amazing? But I don't believe in the mythical Q, at least n...

The Hidden Teachings of Jesus. February 23, 2012. Literary Structure and It's Purpose in Matthew. The Gospel of Matthew looks like a biography; at least it does to the Western reader. The Literary Structure of the Old Testament. Is an excellent book by David Dorsey, a professor who has worked on the subject for more than two decades. I highly recommend this work as a way to get to know the literary structures and how they were used by the ancient Hebrews. To be compared with one another? Yes This...

Returning to The Way. Laquo; January 2012. February 14, 2012. So what was this Oral Tradition? The earliest church was nothing like what we have today. Thats a real shame. Not for them, I assure you. Many of todays scholars have dedicated their efforts to a supposed written work theyve titled Q. Q has only been theorized, never found. Because it was oral only. Thats why. The Oral Tradition of Jesus was also two-fold (not unlike the Oral Tradition of the other Hebrew rabbis). On the surface...
