Uber Random: Q is for Quest for the Black Pearl
http://www.uberrandom.com/2015/04/q-is-for-quest-for-black-pearl.html
Monday, 20 April 2015. Q is for Quest for the Black Pearl. My mom has been super supportive of me working for an NGO so when she gives me a wish list of items to bring back from my travels I relish the quest to check them all off. The last item was checked off today when I found the black pearl earrings she wanted to match the necklace she got from this same kiosk over two years ago. Labels: A to Z 2015. Here are some pictures that my friend AnnaMarie took of our new flat (mine were deleted as well.). Each bedroom has a small enclosed balcony,. Wardrobe for storage, and en suite bath. Abu Dhabi Escapade: December 2012
http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Saturday, December 29, 2012. Trip to Ras al Khaimah. Before Christmas we spent a few days in Ras al Khaimah (aka RAK), which is another emirate in the UAE known for its beautiful beaches. It only took a little over 2 hours to get there and we spent 3 glorious days in the 80 degree sunshine. Mark got me a new (and better) camera and surprised me before the trip so prepare yourself for lots of pictures in the near future! The beautiful Hilton Resort and Spa. With the Hajjar Mountains in the background.

Abu Dhabi Escapade: April 2013
http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 22, 2013. There's so much to say, it's hard to know where to begin. After spending all night and most of a day travelling, we were cranky, hungry, and tired! We tried to make the most of our days but quickly realized that driving anywhere in Sri Lanka takes FOREVER! The infrastructure is not set up to accommodate the traffic and the driver that we had (bless his heart! The walkway down to the mostly deserted beach. Here's a good example of driving in Sri Lanka where drive on the left side o...

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I haven't talked much about religion (and I wont) but I do want to give you a glimpse of what it's like living in a predominately Muslim country. PS Pictures are coming. I promise! Friday, September 21, 2012. The kids had a good week and are really enjoying school! They've made lots of new friends and like their teachers. They are going to a school with an American curriculum and are also learning Arabic- they teach me new words everyday! Mark is helping coach an American f...

Abu Dhabi Escapade: June 2013
http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Only 1 more week and school will officially be over for me and we will be headed back to the U.S. for a visit! We are so excited to see our friends and family and eat some real American food (well, Mexican is what I'm really craving! My boys at school pretty much stopped showing up at the end of May even though the last day wasn't supposed to be until June 13th (it's quite a phenomenon how they just disappear- there are no attendance rules) but I'm not complaining! Olivia gradua...

Abu Dhabi Escapade: November 2013
http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 10, 2013. Q and A: Life in the middle east. This summer while back in The States I was asked many questions about the norms here, the expectations, the differences and similarities, and what a normal day in our lives looks like. I realized how many people are curious about what it's like to live abroad and thought it would be nice to give a general overview:. Q: Do you feel safe in the UAE? Q: What about the recent uprising in neighboring countries? Q: How about women's rights? Mark was ...

Monday, November 5, 2012. Culture Shock is REAL. We're approaching the 3 month mark of living in a new country and I feel like I've recently turned a corner.a good one. So, I'm glad to be moving on to the next phase (hopefully) where I'm less stressed, anxiety-ridden, and basically grumpy (lol.) Inshallah! 1st tooth lost in the UAE! The tooth fairy found him all the way over here and left him 10 dirhams since it was a top tooth (that's a whopping $2.70! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Culture Shock is REAL.

Abu Dhabi Escapade: American Thanksgiving and UAE National Day
http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2014/01/american-thanksgiving-and-uae-national.html
Friday, January 31, 2014. American Thanksgiving and UAE National Day. I can't make this stuff up! The kids were excited to wear their UAE colors! Some friends graciously volunteered to host Thanksgiving in their villa this year so we had lots of space for the 25 or so of us to spread out. Look at all that food! The kids had their own private seating. On National Day we headed with some friends to the airport for the Aerobatic Show held over 4 days here in Al Ain. It was awesome! And a school bus rocket!
