Adventures of an All-American girl living abroad. 160;Thursday, January 1, 2015. Posted by Rae W. 160;Sunday, October 27, 2013. It's been a while since my last post. Ok, longer than a while. I know. I know. Bad blogger. Tsk tsk and all that jazz. Thankfully, I'm no longer in that situation. Hopefully, this year - my final year in AD - will be better and stressful. You read right. This is my 3rd and final year in AD. I can't believe I'm already in my 3rd year! It's gone by so quickly, man. Posted by Rae W.

Wanna join in on the fun? Basically, you take bits and pieces of your week and list them on your blog. The bits and pieces would each be too small for a regular blog post, but put together, they make Friday Fragments. I guess the whole "guys in pink" thing isn't taboo here. I'm not trying to make excuse, but this past school year was rough. Ok, so I'm totally making excuses, but it's the truth. Stressed doesn't even begin to describe how I felt last year. Everything suffered. My health. My writing. My relationship with God. No bueno, right? It's gone by so quickly, man. As findi...

The International Diva: May 2012

http://www.theinternationaldiva.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Adventures of an All-American girl living abroad. 160;Thursday, May 17, 2012. Our letter of the week was "V" and one of our vocab words volcano. So, Monday I had a light bulb moment. Why don't I make a volcano and show the kids a model of what an eruption would be like! Mix vocabulary with science. Yes, I know. I thought so too. Pics for that matter. In Arabic), but I'm sure most of them have never seen. Again, another g. Enius idea, right? Yes, I know. I thought so too. That's ok. I'm fine with my l...

The International Diva: November 2011

http://www.theinternationaldiva.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Adventures of an All-American girl living abroad. 160;Thursday, November 3, 2011. What's up, good people! Or should I say assalamu alikum! Long time, no blog right? I'm sorry. I've been here for almost 3 months. I thought I'd be writing and blogging consistently by now, but clearly not. Honestly, I haven't had much energy to do a lot of things, reading and writing included. Who knew teaching 25 three/four year olds could be so draining! Despite the challenging behavior, I absolutely. If you can't handle ...

Uber Random: Q is for Quest for the Black Pearl

http://www.uberrandom.com/2015/04/q-is-for-quest-for-black-pearl.html

Monday, 20 April 2015. Q is for Quest for the Black Pearl. My mom has been super supportive of me working for an NGO so when she gives me a wish list of items to bring back from my travels I relish the quest to check them all off. The last item was checked off today when I found the black pearl earrings she wanted to match the necklace she got from this same kiosk over two years ago. Labels: A to Z 2015. Abu Dhabi Escapade: August 2012

http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 22, 2012. During the Eid holiday the malls were packed with people shopping, eating, enjoying live music and watching traditional dances, getting henna tattoos (which are temporary), and spending time with friends and family. Here are some pictures that my friend AnnaMarie took of our new flat (mine were deleted as well.). Each bedroom has a small enclosed balcony,. Wardrobe for storage, and en suite bath. We have enjoyed spending time at the pool every single day! It has taken a while ...

Abu Dhabi Escapade: December 2012

http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 29, 2012. Trip to Ras al Khaimah. Before Christmas we spent a few days in Ras al Khaimah (aka RAK), which is another emirate in the UAE known for its beautiful beaches. It only took a little over 2 hours to get there and we spent 3 glorious days in the 80 degree sunshine. Mark got me a new (and better) camera and surprised me before the trip so prepare yourself for lots of pictures in the near future! The beautiful Hilton Resort and Spa. With the Hajjar Mountains in the background.

Abu Dhabi Escapade: April 2013

http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 22, 2013. There's so much to say, it's hard to know where to begin. After spending all night and most of a day travelling, we were cranky, hungry, and tired! We tried to make the most of our days but quickly realized that driving anywhere in Sri Lanka takes FOREVER! The infrastructure is not set up to accommodate the traffic and the driver that we had (bless his heart! The walkway down to the mostly deserted beach. Here's a good example of driving in Sri Lanka where drive on the left side o...

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I haven't talked much about religion (and I wont) but I do want to give you a glimpse of what it's like living in a predominately Muslim country. PS Pictures are coming. I promise! Friday, September 21, 2012. The kids had a good week and are really enjoying school! They've made lots of new friends and like their teachers. They are going to a school with an American curriculum and are also learning Arabic- they teach me new words everyday! Mark is helping coach an American f...

Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Only 1 more week and school will officially be over for me and we will be headed back to the U.S. for a visit! We are so excited to see our friends and family and eat some real American food (well, Mexican is what I'm really craving! My boys at school pretty much stopped showing up at the end of May even though the last day wasn't supposed to be until June 13th (it's quite a phenomenon how they just disappear- there are no attendance rules) but I'm not complaining! Abu Dhabi Escapade: November 2013

http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 10, 2013. Q and A: Life in the middle east. This summer while back in The States I was asked many questions about the norms here, the expectations, the differences and similarities, and what a normal day in our lives looks like. I realized how many people are curious about what it's like to live abroad and thought it would be nice to give a general overview:. Q: Do you feel safe in the UAE? Q: What about the recent uprising in neighboring countries? Q: How about women's rights? Mark was ...

Monday, November 5, 2012. Culture Shock is REAL. We're approaching the 3 month mark of living in a new country and I feel like I've recently turned a corner.a good one. So, I'm glad to be moving on to the next phase (hopefully) where I'm less stressed, anxiety-ridden, and basically grumpy (lol.) Inshallah! 1st tooth lost in the UAE! The tooth fairy found him all the way over here and left him 10 dirhams since it was a top tooth (that's a whopping $2.70! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Culture Shock is REAL.

Abu Dhabi Escapade: American Thanksgiving and UAE National Day

http://abudhabiescapade.blogspot.com/2014/01/american-thanksgiving-and-uae-national.html

Friday, January 31, 2014. American Thanksgiving and UAE National Day. I can't make this stuff up! The kids were excited to wear their UAE colors! Some friends graciously volunteered to host Thanksgiving in their villa this year so we had lots of space for the 25 or so of us to spread out. Look at all that food! The kids had their own private seating. On National Day we headed with some friends to the airport for the Aerobatic Show held over 4 days here in Al Ain. It was awesome! And a school bus rocket!
