some thoughts: December 2011

Christmas must be something more. Saturday, December 24, 2011. Christmas is a season for childlike faith and innocence, when we are invited to believe that anything is possible. As we grow up, though, the stories so cherished in childhood simply become harder to believe. Most of us grow skeptical about life, including the story of Christmas. Yet, two thousand years ago, God invited two very different people to believe in Him for the impossible and what happened next changed their lives forever. Creative ...

The joy dare: day 17. One gift that made you laugh: the boy that I tutor on Tuesday nights. Last week we played 'Boggle' and one of the words on the list was 'nuts'. I used the other side of that sheet of paper for some math questions today. He turned the paper over and pointed to the word, so I asked "nuts? And he burst into giggles (like a little school girl). What you will need is an empty egg carton, 12 empty plastic eggs, miscellaneous items to fill the eggs (see the list below), a sharpie to write the numbers on the eggs, and the printed verses which you will see below. Looking around the house, I seemed to find everything that I needed to fill the eggs. I cut out the scriptures, folded them up, and placed each item from the corresponding day in the numbered egg. The last day there is nothing in the egg because the tomb was empty! I used 3 dimes. I got min...

some thoughts: the joy dare: day 16

The joy dare: day 16. 3 ways you witnessed happiness today. Watching Austin beam with pride as he jumped into the deep end (repeatedly) without the use of his life jacket. My friend's look of sheer joy and excitement as she picked up, smelled and drooled over the freshly baked, gluten-free grape pie that she took home with her this afternoon. With a bit of a smirk on his face. It was just really nice to see him smiling, maybe not truly 'happy', but content in that moment of time. Monday, January 16, 2012.

Friday, September 16, 2011. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Everyone’s new at Crossroads School. Released in the St. Catharines Standard. September 7, 2011. My nephew, Rowan, and some of his friends. Getting off the bus on their first day. Of classes at the new school. Suddenly, everyone was the new kid in a new school Tuesday morning. Nervous or not, though, he'd made a couple of new friends by noon. And he'd found plenty to like about his new digs. That moment this morning, when the buses arrived and all m...
