The Jolly Seamstress

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. I finished the costume back in February! I decided once I got down to sewing that I would only make the blue Raymonda costume. I actually decided to make a tutu also. I made a blue "bell" tutu out of crinoline which I bought from tutu.com. I used a pattern from tutupatterns.com. I made the panty from broadcloth and the basque from spandex. I hand gathered each crinoline ruffle. Here is the finished costume! The Jolly Young Seamstress. Saturday, January 5, 2013. I will make a si...

The Jolly Seamstress: December 2010

http://thejollyseamstress.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Tuesday, December 21, 2010. For my Velvet bodice, I am sewing with 100% Silk thread. I first tried sewing with Polyester thread. But, it kept breaking. I also had to sew on a slightly bigger stitch. The Jolly Young Seamstress. Friday, December 17, 2010. I serged the cotton lining to the Velvet. The Jolly Young Seamstress. Sunday, December 5, 2010. I had a problem, some parts are too tight and others were too loose. So, I had to take in a few places on the seams. It is working out pretty good so far.

The Jolly Seamstress: November 2010

http://thejollyseamstress.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 13, 2010. Mockup for Tutu Bodice. Once I can fit the mockup just right, I can start the real ballet bodice made from non stretch Velvet :-). Sewing a mock up of the bodice is when you can make all of the adjustments for fitting purposes. Using broad cloth, muslin, or something inexpensive is a good way. The Jolly Young Seamstress. I just finished my dance pants :) They are so fast and easy to make! The Jolly Young Seamstress. Friday, November 12, 2010. Mock up for bodice.

The Jolly Seamstress: Paquita

http://thejollyseamstress.blogspot.com/2011/02/paquita.html

Friday, February 4, 2011. Here is a picture of the Paquita bodice I am almost finished with. I still have the applique to sew on. I hand stitched the boning on with the catch stitch I bought steel boning and boing tape from Vogue Fabrics. I also bought some "Rit Liquid Dye" in the color wine to make the boning tape match. And, the hooks and bars at the local sewing shop. I made a pattern for the tan insert by the outline of the bodice. The elastic straps are sewn on by hand. The Jolly Young Seamstress.

The Jolly Seamstress: Finished Bodices

http://thejollyseamstress.blogspot.com/2011/02/finished-bodices.html

Saturday, February 19, 2011. Paquita is finished. And, Bluebird is too. Finally something good! This applique I pieced together from 2 appliques I bought online. The tutu was a pre-made tutu that I got from Discount Dance. It is the " Natalie Professional Tutu"-. Style No: N5835. We tacked the pieces to the hoop. The applique on this bodice was pieced together from 5 of the same appliques. Purchased from Joann Fabrics. This one is a double strap. Sewed with a "zig zag" stitch on the machine.

The Jolly Singers | Een gezellig koor!

In 2015 bestaan The Jolly Singers 30 jaar! Uarr; Naar boven.

The Jolly Spoon | For the love of food

For the love of food. Tuna and Avocado Donburi. June 24, 2013. This is really quick, yummy and healthy Japanese/Asian dinner I often make! Donburi is a really popular dish in Japan, and consists on toppings (usually fish/sashimi or meat based) on a bed of rice. Tuna and avocado donburi (serves 2). Steamed Japanese/sushi rice (I cook mine in my rice cooker but you can cook in a saucepan too- this method works perfectly). Salt and pepper to season. 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds. 3 tablespoons soy sauce.
