Do you make any special effort to help curb this phenomena? With Earth Day just over and Earth hour happening a month ago, it seems that global warming is becoming a big issue. In CNN.com. https://thejournalofamber.wordpress.com/2008/03/18/schema-in-the-park
This Journal of Mine. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Schema in the park. March 18, 2008. Schemas are mental representation of objects or categories of objects. It contains the obvious features of the object or category and assumption on how it would work. To decide how to behave in a situation, we go through an automatic process of categorization of things to establish meanings and predicting how they will work using schemas. The situation was not clear. He did not have a label on his clothes tha...

This Journal of Mine. Just another WordPress.com weblog. To whale or not to whale. April 15, 2008. I experienced some dissonance within myself while reading an article about whaling from Yahoo! Cognitive dissonance theory states that having thoughts in harmony of each other makes us feel good while clashing thoughts makes us feel bad. The discomfort produced by dissonant thoughts spur us to do something to change our state. However as I ponder further, the shortage of whale meat in the commercial market ...
Handsome vs Ordinary | This Journal of Mine
https://thejournalofamber.wordpress.com/2008/04/09/handsome-vs-ordinary
This Journal of Mine. Just another WordPress.com weblog. April 9, 2008. Social comparison is also done by people in romantic relationships. LeBeau and Buckingham (2008) stated that upward and downward comparisons among people who frequently compare their relationships with others cannot be avoided. They found that people who frequently compared received information that their relationship is both better and worse than others and this mixed information might lead to insecurity in their relationship. Breck...

This Journal of Mine. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Conforming in a group. March 26, 2008. On the 22nd of March 2008, the SATURDAY newspaper ran an 8 page article about teenage girls being declared Beyond Parental Control by their parents. This meant that their parents felt that they cannot control them and needed the court’s assistance. Typically, these girls joined gangs, took drugs, smoked cigarettes (even though they’re underage), have sex casually, self mutilate etc. A critical factor, norm of ...

a different perspective: #5 Attraction
http://thisisforsocialpsych.blogspot.com/2008/05/5-attraction.html
Thursday, May 1, 2008. Have you ever wonder what makes you like a person? Because he looks like Tom Cruise? He loves shopping like you do? Or he knows how to repair your computer because you can't do it? I'd say it all matters. Looks play the very important FIRST role. Then we have the birds of a feather flock together following opposite attracts or vice versa. It doesn't matter which come first but it'll occur somehow. These are just some things that I'd say start our relationship and strengthen it.

a different perspective: #3 To strive to be like Sienna or glad that you're not Minnie Mouse on loose
http://thisisforsocialpsych.blogspot.com/2008/04/upward-and-downward-social-comparison.html
Tuesday, April 8, 2008. 3 To strive to be like Sienna or glad that you're not Minnie Mouse on loose. Many a times we'll compare ourselves to others. From what I can remember, as young as in primary school, I will compare myself with my peers, how they had done in the exams, what kind of toys they have and up till now, what kind of bags, shoes they carried. And maybe, few months down the road, how much salary they are drawing. At least they makes me feel better right? But mum had my intention in mind....

The Helper and Comforter. April 3, 2008. Regardless of the school of thought, rule number of counsellors: Establish Rapport. Our relationship with God determines how much He can help us and how much we are willing to allow Him to help us. The clients must come to realise the issues that are bothering them. We must be convicted of sins, weakness and shortcomings before God can guide us to overcome them. The clients must possess the desire to overcome their problems and believe that it can be done. God's S...

Monday, April 14, 2008. 4 Normative social influence among friends. Some of you might have heard this story from me. But as John was going through today's lecture, this emotional thoughts ran through my mind. Normative social influence. I had this bunch of close friends way back from secondary school. We were very close to a point that we called each other sisters. We used to do all things together, all six of us. But as time passes, we changed and drifted apart. I have my own thinking and should decide ...

http://thisisforsocialpsych.blogspot.com/2008/04/gift-for-friend-but-never-given.html
Wednesday, April 2, 2008. 2 A gift for a friend but never given. I've bought this bracelet for a friend of mine, after knowing her predicament. It was meant to be a lucky charm, when she's all alone in Hong Kong, fighting with the bad. As I was choosing the bracelet, I fell in love with it. I really like the bracelet a lot. I'd buy one for myself if my budget allows, but sadly no. I could have change my behaviour. By getting her address in Hong Kong and send it to her. Hahain a twist of luck (or whatever...

Social Psychology - What is it really about? March 29, 2008. Eric: Self-serving bias. You're going to RT (remidial training) means you like RT. Because if you do not like RT, you won't be going for RT. The fact that you're going for RT means you like RT. You. Moses: Just World Belief. Everything happens for a reason. I'm a good guy. I'm doing RT. There must be a purpose for me to be there? Haha kidding of course. Eric: Maybe you're right afterall. So does social psychology. Eric Matthew wrote @ 10:45 AM.
