The twelve days of ZUMO
http://www.thejoyofcode.com/The_twelve_days_of_ZUMO.aspx
The twelve days of ZUMO. It's been a great year for the Mobile Services team. 2012 was the year that most of the team that built the product joined (the project was only conceived in late 2011 and there were very few members of the team at that point) and we shipped our first public preview in August. Since then we've been adding more and more feature and more locations on a regular basis. Just today, Scott blogged. To our available locations. Day 1: Small but great enhancements to the data browser.
Filter this (Day 3)
http://www.thejoyofcode.com/Filter_this_Day_3_.aspx
Filter this (Day 3). One of my favorite hidden nuggets in Mobile Services is Service Filters. Service Filters allow you to place an interceptor between your client’s CRUD calls and the server. There are many useful applications for this, but one of my favorites is the ability to easily create a ‘busy’ or ‘activity’ indicator based on in-flight requests to the your Mobile Service. Here’s how in C#:. MyServiceFilter : IServiceFilter { private. CallCount = 0; private. OutgoingCount = 1) { busyIndicator( true.
Working with Ids in the Entity Framework
http://www.thejoyofcode.com/Working_with_Ids_in_the_Entity_Framework.aspx
Working with Ids in the Entity Framework. I recently converted the ASP.NET application that powers theJoyOfCode.com to use the ADO.NET Entity Framework (EF). I've long been a fan of Object Relational Mapping and, whilst I'm not crazy about EF's lack of persistence ignorance, I am very impressed with EF and pleased with the decision to move. Over the next few weeks I hope to write about some of the snags I encountered whilst working with EF and how I worked around them (or not). Where p.PostId = postId.
Setting up two web sites in IIS7
http://www.thejoyofcode.com/Setting_up_two_web_sites_in_IIS7.aspx
Setting up two web sites in IIS7. I've just installed Vista and enjoyed a relatively seamless install experience (had to update the BIOS on my new laptop but can't really blame vista for that). One of the coolest things about Vista is that we get to see IIS7 and the funky features. We were promised all that time ago. When you first open the IIS admin console you're in for a shock. it feels bizarre. There's no place like 127.0.0.1. The easiest way to do this is create an entry in your host file that point...
Introducing Ukadc.Diagnostics
http://www.thejoyofcode.com/Introducing_Ukadc_Diagnostics.aspx
Great logging, terrible name". Long time readers of this blog are probably aware that I'm a big fan of logging and instrumentation. The keen eyed of you may have even spotted the subject of this post in my recent post Xaml for config. The clue was the name of the System.Diagnostics TraceListener: "Ukadc.Diagnostics.Listeners.InMemoryTraceListener". What's that all about then? UKADC) team. The project was born out of a conversation with Morgan Skinner. When I mentioned that I tended to use log4net. And so...

ArgumentException: Using SharePoint 2010 feature upgrades to update existing sites.
http://www.deepcode.co.uk/2012/09/using-sharepoint-2010-feature-upgrades.html
Friday, 28 September 2012. Using SharePoint 2010 feature upgrades to update existing sites. The system does a lot more than that, but for the purposes of this post, that’s enough background. Suffice it to say, it’s 3 years old now and contains ten’s of thousands of case sites, and they need some changes. Two of these changes are actually what I’d imagine are quite common scenarios. They need to;. Add a new page to all case sites, with another set of web parts. A “case site” site definition. Several ̶...

Friday, 28 September 2012. Using SharePoint 2010 feature upgrades to update existing sites (Part II). For the background to this, read my earlier post – feature upgrades part 1. For the source code, go grab it from codeplex here: http:/ featureupgradesample.codeplex.com/. The case site content feature contains a module – which in turn provisions a landing page on the case site with some prescribed web parts. A case site presently looks like this;. The site contains one page – the landing page, with...

ArgumentException: June 2012
http://www.deepcode.co.uk/2012_06_01_archive.html
Wednesday, 27 June 2012. Anyone else wondering who’s calling the shots over in Redmond at the moment? I wonder if they realise just how hard they are making things for us developers? Things that are bugging me at the moment include;. They still think IE is king and continue to build products like CRM to be IE only. They don’t force a better world by making IE updates be “required” on windows update – imagine if IE7 disappeared overnight! Stupid decisions like the one to not support IE9 on XP. A HTML5 UI ...
ArgumentException: March 2011
http://www.deepcode.co.uk/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, 3 March 2011. How to annoy paying wi-fi access users. I’m staying at the premier inn at tower hill in London this week and, on Sunday night I decided to whip my credit card out to the tune of £20 for a week’s internet access on their wifi, provided by spectrum interactive. It goes like this;. 1 I connect to wifi, then sign in;. That goes well and tells me I’m signed in – it also tries to open a session window that doesn’t exist;. 2 Five to ten minutes later, the connection ceases working. Label...
ArgumentException: October 2013
http://www.deepcode.co.uk/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 22 October 2013. How to "fiddle" SOAP messages and WCF endpoints. The fix though is easy. In WCF tester, add your reference to your service, say http:/ localhost:12345/myservice.svc. Then, right click on the “Config File” node in WCF tester and select to edit with SvcConfigEditor. Find your endpoint under client - endpoint, and then change http:/ localhost:12345/myservice.svc to http:/ localhost .fiddler. 12345/myservice.svc and hey presto, the traffic gets pushed through fiddler. The Joy of Christina. February 3, 2015. Woah Almost 2 years since last post? And I have somebody asking me for a "Lickety Split" which reminds me why I am never writing about it all anymore. I'm not writing, because I am unendingly busy DOING it all. Apparently, a Lickety Split is a mashed banana with drizzled chocolate sauce and crushed Nilla cookies on top. Sounds like an appropriate snack, created by a 4-year-old.). I am 16 weeks pregnant. Mcclellan is 7 (almost 8! We are unendingly busy. And now,...
