HLH is a genetic disease, which can be inherited in one of two ways: Autosomal Recessive or X-Linked. Autosomal Recessive is where the child has two copies of the abnormal gene, one from each parent. Kadence's Story

Doctors did not know what was wrong with her, they could stabilize her, but nothing was improving. Within 4 days, they diagnosed her with. HLH) which is a rarely diagnosed disease. For more information on HLH, please visit the About HLH tab on the KJF website. Doctors decided that the only way Kadence’s condition would improve was with steroids and chemotherapy, which she would endure for a total of 8 weeks. This was the first protocol for HLH. After celebrating her sixth birthday on May 17.

In 2014, a second fund was started at Penn State Hershey called the Kadence Jae Foundation Fund for Patient and Family Centered Care. We are the first foundation to create a fund to begin this program which supports the needs of parents who have a child in the hospital for a long-term stay.
