Back together for the first time, again.

http://thekenisin.blogspot.com/2008/07/golden-week-contd.html

Back together for the first time, again. Monday, July 28, 2008. Golden Week cont'd. Kamakura. I've been here several times before, but it's worth photo-ing every time. The beautiful hike through a range of heavily forested hills from my aunt and uncle's place takes us down into the ancient city of Kamakura, featuring magnificent temples and shrines. There's that kid again! Brett and I were a bit startled. "Didn't we just pass him? Old, old trees received as gifts from China in the year 7th century.

Harujuku, a happenin' place for people who like to shop and walk in very crowded conditions. Actually refers to the cannon batteries that were placed on these islands. Today, it's a popular tourist destination and it has it's moments on a sunny day. 2007 post for more. A street performer with the best spot in Tokyo. According to...

Back together for the first time, again. Tuesday, April 22, 2008. This distant speck of a prefecture, historically and geographically closer to Taiwan and China than Japan, is a strange, sad, wonderful place. To many, Okinawa evokes images of pristine beaches, clear water, and a relaxed island culture that features reggae and hip hop music. This is one face of Okinawa. Enough of the heavy. My visit to Okinawa was really a visit to my friend Robyn, whom I had met at JET orientation in Toronto so many year...

Back together for the first time, again.: August 2008

http://thekenisin.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Back together for the first time, again. Saturday, August 30, 2008. Brett and I took a weekend trip to see Himeji Castle and, since it's only an hour further, Osaka as well. I've heard numerous people say that Himeji is the "best" castle in Japan, and I never really understood what that meant; surely it's a matter of opinion. I can understand if you say the biggest, or the oldest, or even most beautiful. but the best? I couldn't even fit the whole thing in the frame, it's so huge. We thought we'd drop in...

Two weeks in the same place? Simons Town, South Africa. I woke up this bright sunny Monday morning to realize that this is the first time since September (with the exclusion of my 3 weeks spent at home over Christmas) that I have been in the same bed, same room, same place, same city for more than a week. Wow! Well that's what's up with me these days. I'm going back to the same room right now to enjoy the feeling of familarity that one gets from the second week in the same place. Advent IV: May It Be. Tonight there is no festive fire dancing on the television screen to keep me warm. Tonight there are no pop renditions of age-old carols to keep me company. Tonight it is not about the shopping lists and the count-down to Christmas. Tonight it is not about egg not and mistletoe. Tonight it is not about Rudolf and Frosty. Tonight not all is silent. http://danahonderich.blogspot.com/2011/12/advent-ii-on-being-incarnate.html

Advent II: On Being Incarnate. This Advent more than others I find myself highly attuned to the embodiment of God, the notion of the incarnation. Perhaps it has something to do with feeling weary, run-down and sick for most of Advent thus far that has me realizing again the limitations of my humanness and my own embodiment. Another poignant reminder of the limitation of embodiment came to me in reading The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Posted by Dana L Penner. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Meghan ...

Advent III: The Empty Stable. It's Christmas time, and I have decked the halls, and trimmed the tree, and it's starting to snow,. But I feel a sense of emptiness. I can understand what the stable. Nearby a packed inn was a lonely stable. It was there, and that was all it was. It was there like it always was. And then they came. A young girl, a middle aged man, and their donkey-chariot. They came to rest in that empty stable. And into the world came a baby, a tiny baby. Born in an empty stable. Sensei Ken...
