Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. There Is no other Way! August 4, 2015. Well, as of Friday my summer unit of CPE is completed! Paul lays it out very clearly; that Jesus was and is our Creator God, above any and all other entities we may construct or imagine or that may exist in the world. Jesus provides us our only hope of redemption and restoration in a world that is so thoroughly broken and misguided. Paul continues in Col. 2:8 saying,. Paul exhorts us to see through those false truths. ...

Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. Why Pray to the One Who Lets People Hurt? April 19, 2015. Over more than the last half dozen posts we’ve been discussing the effectiveness of prayer according to W. Bingham Hunter’s The God Who Hears. Hunter began his discussion prayer from the perspective of who God is that we pray to? Last post we considered the trials and difficulties of this life, and we explored the question why there are sufferings and trials and hardship in this life? First we have to ac...

Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. The Burden of Trials, Versus Temptations. May 13, 2015. It’s a beautiful morning! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the semester is finished! And this morning I received a phone call inviting me to interview for a yearlong residency to follow at another local hospital. Please be praying for that interview; for wisdom and clarity, and that God’s will in this be revealed for our lives. Last Friday I also had the honor of sharing the funeral homily fo...

How Then Shall We Pray? | Allan Harmening

Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. How Then Shall We Pray? June 30, 2015. Hunter begins with a thought of thanksgiving. He reflects that we need pray with a thankful heart because your continued existence at any given point in time is completely dependent upon God’s sustaining power through Christ. As believers we are called to glorify God because he has added the countless blessings of salvation and a covenantal relationship with him,. Hunter reminds us that love and prayer are directly linked&...

I’m Hurting God!! | Allan Harmening
https://allanharmening.wordpress.com/2015/04/13/584
Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. I’m Hurting God! April 13, 2015. Job himself faced such ultimate suffering as he pondered these very thoughts in Job 21:7-8, 11-15. These verses relate Job’s frustration as he reflected upon his life, which truly was a model life in the eyes of the Lord; while he considered those living ‘otherwise’ that see no trouble at all! Adding insult to injury, when we do ask the question we want answered most of all, Why God? Peace be with you today! He is Risen Indeed!

Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. God as Your Father; Wonderful Picture…or Not So Much? June 5, 2015. Summer’s pace is not slowing down! Right now my greatest prayer request is for the strength and stamina to handle the pace at this very busy hospital; a hospital which considers the inclusion of pastoral care an essential component for the well-being and healing of their patients. Today we consider a focus on fatherhood; the recognition that God is our Father. Hunter reminds us that in Old ...

Allan Harmening's Continuing Walk and Call. March 10, 2016. Spring is here in St. Louis, and it truly is becoming beautiful. We all know spring; the grass is becoming green, the trees are in bud the maple out back of our house is blooming. The daffodils began to bloom this week. The air is warmer and the smell of spring is very much welcome. So what’s coming next for Jean and me? Jean has given notice? Who is this God? Well, for one thing he’s not someone you can contact electronically, and he does not h...
