Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010: Magical Icefields Parkway!
http://kiwicyclist3.blogspot.com/2010/09/magical-icefields-parkway.html
Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010. Back to Home page. Wednesday, 1 September 2010. The next day we checked out of the hostel, stored our bags downstairs and set off for a dayride around Banff. We visited Lake Minniewanka, then Lake Johnson; then took on a mountain bike track which was good fun on the non-suspension touring bike! Jimmy got burnt in the unpredictably hot shower, and they refunded his night's accommodation fee. As we were heading off the next day we bumped into a group of cycle t...

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008: A 'summer' in the UK....
http://kiwicyclist.blogspot.com/2008/09/summer-in-uk.html
Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008. Joy also has a blog: the-life-of-joy.blogspot.com. Wednesday, September 10, 2008. A 'summer' in the UK. Brits are accused of talking about the weather too much, but I can see why. In the three weeks we have been in the UK it has rained pretty much every day. And this is summer. One consolation is that it sounds like we have missed a fairly cold and wet New Zealand winter. Alcohol is expensive over here (compared to Europe) so we are now drinking the cheapest alcoh...

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008: January 2008

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008. Joy also has a blog: the-life-of-joy.blogspot.com. Monday, January 28, 2008. Training, new seats, new gear! I'm getting so enthused about new gear for this trip that I think I will end up looking like one of those trendy ski-bunnies on the slopes with sparkling new (matching) gear from top to toe. Joyce's husband Dave immediately said "you'll get instant haemorrhoids on that thing! So Joy is trying that one out. Joy came to Rotorua for a weekend for some training ...

Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010: Heading West on the Homeward Journey
http://kiwicyclist3.blogspot.com/2010/09/heading-west-on-homeward-journey.html
Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010. Back to Home page. Wednesday, 8 September 2010. Heading West on the Homeward Journey. We went to the pub for dinner - and had the same great burger and fries deal we'd had the night before! It was Jimmy's third identical burger; and my second. It was unbeatable so why change a good thing? The next day was pretty overcast, but still a tailwind which was just incredible. We arrived 90km later in Blue River about 2pm. Blue River is even smaller and sleep...It re...

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008: June 2008
http://kiwicyclist.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008. Joy also has a blog: the-life-of-joy.blogspot.com. Sunday, June 29, 2008. Our plan of reducing our luggage by getting rid of books didn´t work all that well - yes we did get rid of the books we´d finished with - by replacing them with new ones! Afterwards we were wandering around the shops and found an English Bookstore with brand new books just as cheap! So bought some more.). And dutch waffles (how had I not found these before? And to stay in a normal house and ...

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008: May 2008
http://kiwicyclist.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008. Joy also has a blog: the-life-of-joy.blogspot.com. Saturday, May 31, 2008. Roman city - Nimes. Our paddock-sized camp site became a paddock-sized mud-bath after it rained fairly relentlessly in the night. The pebbly/cobblestoned Italian campsites starting to look like a good idea again! I put my tent up (to dry it off) and got a few funny looks. No, I was not about to camp on the rocks, but I guess they weren't to know. Thursday, May 29, 2008. The weather forecast...

Three Girls, Six Wheels: Magical Milford
http://kiwicyclist2.blogspot.com/2010/01/magical-milford.html
Three Girls, Six Wheels. Monday, 4 January 2010. The weather down here has been so unpredictable; we've stopped looking at the weather forecast. The day that we decided not to ride because of 'possible thunderstorms' ended up being hot and sunny by 11am and staying that way! 160;I did get to enjoy some Deep South icecream though, so that made up for it. After Dinner Mint is my favourite flavour - tastes just like after-dinner mint! Tomorrow we bike to Mavora Lakes, and the next day will take the backro...

Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010: September 2010
http://kiwicyclist3.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Byrdie's cycle tour of British Columbia 2010. Back to Home page. Friday, 24 September 2010. I've just arrived in Auckland Airport and it feels so good to be back in NZ. I had to unpack all my carefully-bundled luggage to get through Bio-Security; then pack it again to be transferred to my Rotorua flight. Now I've got a couple of hours to wander around Auckland Airport; thank goodness for free internet! I nearly bought a pair of fashion gumboots to complement the two other pairs of shoes I have bought ...

Two Sisters, Two bicycles - Europe 2008. Joy also has a blog: the-life-of-joy.blogspot.com. Monday, September 29, 2008. 7950km, 17 countries - we are done. We've bundled our bikes into their (now raggedy) plastic rubbish sacks one last time and we are on our way home. We've got an hour or so remaining at Kansai airport waiting for boarding. It's fun spending the last of our japanese yen in the duty free shops! Hopefully NZ customs cooperates. And of course there are all the other european countries that ...

Spain and France 2011: May 2011
http://kiwicyclist5.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Spain and France 2011. Sunday, 22 May 2011. Adios Espana; Bonjour France! On Monday my achey post-hike legs ouched their way down the stairs of the Pension and we set off on the bikes again. The legs much prefer cycling to walking! Afterwards we cycled through town, laughing the whole time, to Alex’s favourite Glacier (icecream shop), but it was closed. Alex suggested we stay a second night in Biarritz “so you can try the icecream”. Good idea. The next day, Thursday, it was Julie’s birthday and Ale...
