the Knitress

The hand made curiosities of Tamara McDannel. Sunday, January 15, 2012. I am working on a design for a dear childhood friend. She requested a scarf but I think she would equally appreciate a cowl (she just doesn't know it yet). I've been busy all weekend with yarn selections. This here is a lovely Malabrigo. Superwash, which means it's been chemically treated so you can machine wash it without it felting into a tiny, stiff version of itself. It's coming along swimmingly! Links to this post. the Knitress: Handmade Christmas in Remembrance

http://www.theknitress.blogspot.com/2012/01/handmade-christmas-in-remembrance.html

The hand made curiosities of Tamara McDannel. Saturday, January 7, 2012. Handmade Christmas in Remembrance. It's that time of year when the Christmas tree carnage begins to line the streets of New York. I occasionally trip over the nubby ends that poke out onto the sidewalk, but manage to ignore this mild nuisance due to the fact that I get a good whiff of pine (which is my equivalent to an addict sniffing glue). I have to apologize for the less than stellar photos. I couldn't find my camera at the t...

the Knitress: Public Knudity

http://www.theknitress.blogspot.com/2012/01/public-knudity.html

The hand made curiosities of Tamara McDannel. Wednesday, January 4, 2012. I am a solitary knitter. Or at least I've always thought of myself as one. I taught myself to knit and continue this practice all by my lonesome. Things, I just don't often find myself doing the deed with them. I was beginning to feel like.(gasp).a knitting prude, or knude. The thought of my possible knudity. Horrified me. How could this be? I was but a lonely knude. With not a knitter to share my knudity. Do you like beer? As for ...

the Knitress: Attention New Yorkers

http://www.theknitress.blogspot.com/2012/01/attention-new-yorkers.html

The hand made curiosities of Tamara McDannel. Thursday, January 12, 2012. Dear Fellow New Yorkers,. The weather outside has been, shall we say, sloshy lately. Being a very pedestrian city it is necessary we get ourselves around by foot despite the weather. What I'm trying to say is what the &$% is with the giant golf umbrellas New York? Seriously, are you waiting for the cabana boy to bring you drinks under that thing? I think the entire Dugger family. Or how about a rain slicker and some wellies? Whatev...

Bloem Family: The Garden Starts...

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-garden-starts.html

Sunday, April 7, 2013. This year we've decided to start a garden. (ok, well I decided and my lovely husband built it for me). In years past, I've just done mainly herbs and a few veggies in pots. This year we're moving up: raised planter beds! It was pretty easy. and we had most of the materials for one box already. So here goes nothing. check back later this summer to see how we're doing! And now we wait. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bob, Heather, Bridgette and Aiden. View my complete profile.

Bloem Family: May 2012

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Thursday, May 31, 2012. After 4 1/2 months of living in an apartment, we are finally HOME! And boy does it feel good to call this new place "home". We have space to spread out, I have a new kitchen to cook in, Bob has a garage again, and we have a yard to play in! And the dogs are back with us - not sure who was happier. the kids to see the dogs, the dogs to see us, or my parents to have their house/yard back! Thank you Mimi and Poppa for keeping our pups for that long! Best Aiden face yet! Yesterday we ...

Bloem Family: March 2013

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, March 24, 2013. It's cold windy outside, I've pinned way too many egg ideas, and Easter is a week away. This was the prefect morning to test out a few recipes/ideas, and dye some eggs! And, Aiden learned he liked hard-boiled eggs. He didn't get it at first. when Bobby handed him an egg (peeled), he kept trying to "crack" it on his plate! Next up: white chocolate puppy chow. Now this was fun, and the kids loved helping! Saturday, March 23, 2013. We had the kids, wagon/stroller, snacks, drinks, etc...

Bloem Family: Patio Project

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2013/05/patio-project.html

Monday, May 13, 2013. That's right, I said project. Somethings not right unless there's some sort of "project" going on in our house! This time: the back patio. When we were building our house, we kept going back and forth whether to extend our back patio slab or not. We decided against it at the time, thinking "we have plenty of room. we'll save the money, etc". Well, we should have known. We are outside people and we wanted a little more space. So here's how it happened:. The stamping process begins.

Bloem Family: Boots & Bluebonnet

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2013/04/bluebonnet-pictures.html

Sunday, April 21, 2013. Being from Texas, it's almost customary to have pictures in bluebonnets every year. But this year was our FIRST set of pictures with the flowers! I was lucky enough to win a mini-session from a photographer through my MOPS group, and they turned out great! And we finally got a picture made with all of us in our cowboy boots! Bloem Family: January 2013

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 31, 2013. Even though we're in a brand new house, it doesn't stop my urge to be doing a "project"! Insert sarcastic voice) Our last project was our bedroom. It's been a work in progress, but we've painted the walls, built a fabric bench for the foot of the bed, and built a headboard for cheap! With chains, hammers, an axe, etc. we beat the wood. Then we primed the wood, and painted it a light brown (something we had from the house). And our other little helper. And a view up close :).

Bloem Family: August 2012

http://bloemfamily.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 16, 2012. Conversations from the Backseat. The kids vocabulary (especially Bridgette's) is constantly expanding, and always making us laugh. This morning we drove down to meet a friend for a playdate. and the conversation in the backseat was too funny not to share. it went something like this:. Bridgette: "No hon, you can't say wheeee." (and of course Aiden says it again). Hey bud, you can't do that. You can't say wheeee because we aren't on a ramp. Do you understand me hon? And since I ...

Knit Sisters : Watch out. We’ve got sharp sticks.

Watch out. We’ve got sharp sticks. Day 24 The fall. Friday, February 18th, 2011. Day 24: Monday, February 14, 2011. This is the first day that I haven’t done any stitching. As you can imagine, this fall has really slowed me down this week. I’ve been to the doctor and gotten a CT scan (which was clear), but I’m still hurting pretty good and spending a lot of time in bed sleeping. But, on the bright side, Monday was the only day that I haven’t done any stitching at all. I’m working away on. This is a baby ...

Adventures in Viking Knit. A design collection of wire jewelry creations from the Knit Smithy. What Is Viking Knit (VK)? Questions of Origin - History. Monday, May 2, 2016. It is with a heavy hear that I announce the closing of my Etsy shop, The Knit Smithy. I have had to realize that the shop just isn't a priority anymore, and was more a drain on me than anything. Maybe I will re-open the shop someday. But for now, I am "closing the doors.". Thank you for your love and support! Thursday, March 5, 2015.
