Hot or Not – Floating Shoe Racks — DESIGN SCOUTING

Hot or Not – Floating Shoe Racks. November 4, 2014. I was searching for shoe storage for the long narrow hallway. And came across these J-Me Shoe Racks. In a house by Dehn Bloom Design. What do we think? I keep waffling. I like that they are narrow but wonder how functional they would actually be in a real house full of morning rushes and puppies. 101514 – Morningside Heights & A Looooong Hallway. October 15, 2014. I’m sitting in the passenger seat of our rental car, listening to The Coffee House on XM Radio, which I associate with the open road. We’re Washington DC bound, with Alex, bagels and black and white cookies tucked in the back, visiting our oldest college friends and meeting their new baby. Tim is driving in the quietly meditative way that I love and Alex is engrossed in his Search and Find book. I’ll be back this week with some po...

Fairy Tales and A Gripping Radio Lab. April 14, 2015. I went on a reading bender this weekend and read these fantasy / fairy tale retellings and enjoyed them all:. By Amber Jaeger: There is nothing I love more than a Beauty and the Beast re-telling. And this is a goooood one, folks! Bound by Kate Sparkes. The Seventh Bride by T. Kingfisher. Then, I just listened to this gripping Radio Lab about an urban voyeur. Comments… read them below or add one. April 14, 2015 at 3:23 pm. So I anticipate having a litt...

Marie Kondo: I went down the rabbit hole — DESIGN SCOUTING

Marie Kondo: I went down the rabbit hole. November 15, 2014. I’ve been down the rabbit hole this last week – the Japanese organizing rabbit hole to be exact – reading and then implementing Marie Kondo’s practical, funny, spiritual guide to decluttering your home. About it last week, then a friend tweeted. About it and finally I saw it in front of the register at the bookstore when I was checking out. I bought it and read it in a day – I highly recommend it. Hello, Crocus, Clusters of Hammocks. March 27, 2015. I visited a friend and long time reader of the blog last weekend and she looked at me with a sigh and said “I’m getting tired of seeing that cashmere dress every time I check for a new post” and that’s when I knew it was time to climb back up on the blogging horse. Nancy. So I take it that spring is around the corner. This photo from Deborah Needleman’s Instagram. Caught my eye this week while I was looking for images of her amazing garden. This is a p...

Wardrobe for The Polar Vortex — DESIGN SCOUTING

Wardrobe for The Polar Vortex. November 20, 2014. A little PSA from frozen NYC: Uniqlo’s cashmere dress. Is amazingly flattering and so cozy without being too hot (my constant problem with cashmere) and $129. NB: My sister braved the seizure inducing lights of the midtown store with me and raved about how this could be a great holiday party dress. In my reality, I’ve been wearing it to walk the dog and school drop off. Still – hi or low, this dress is a new favorite around here. Omg its the best! My Preg...

A messy collection of art projects, crafts, and various random things…. A little about me. April 16, 2015. It all started with a Blythe. Not too long ago, I was introduced to the crazy world of dolls when a friend traded me a Blythe doll. In exchange for some artwork. She had warned me I may become addicted. “Oh pshaw,” I thought. “They’re cute, but I’m not really. That’s pretty darn cool, I guess. People do ALL kinds of crazy customizations to their Blythes, and I started to find it fascinating. And whe...
