The Last Boat Journeys. Monday, November 28, 2011. Last Boat's final trip until the New Year. Sunday, November 27, we pulled our anchor for the last time in a while and headed out into the gulf for Cape Coral, where we plan to leave the boat when we go home for Christmas. What a wonderful day on the water! The weather was perfect! Thank you, Ike and Babs! We are looking forward to seeing our friends and family when we get home. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Last Boat Journeys. Thursday, April 23, 2009. Thursday, April 23, 2009. We then packed some clothes and headed to their house to stay until Tuesday after the thunderstorms. We helped Loretta celebrate her birthday Friday night with her son, Danny, his wife, Heather, and two girls, Carolina and Erin. We went to the Longhorn Steak house. A very good steak meal for most of us. We had the waiters sing Happy Birthday to Loretta. She was surprised! 8220;HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Loretta! Friday, April 17, 2009.

The Last Boat Journeys. Tuesday, November 23, 2010. Saturday, November 20, 2010. Beautiful late sun setting and the smoke in the background. Handsome and tired captian of Last Boat. Love the sunsets on Lake Okeechobee. One of the five locks we went through after going over to the west coast of FL. Did not get a picture of the four alligators we saw through alligator alley. They each got into the water as we rode by. Trip from Clewiston to Fort Myers. Friday, November 19, 2010. Be heeled over to get under.

http://sv-journey.blogspot.com/2011/12/go-fasts-whomper-wakes-and-idiots.html

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. Go-fasts, whomper-wakes, and idiots. We were seeing a lot more boat traffic since reaching the Sunshine State, more cruisers and more local traffic as folks take advantage of the mild days here. Fortunately, Al was holding on to the furled Genoa, so I didn't have to go back and fish him out of the drink. He took this picture right after the go-fast passed, as you can see, the guy is already in the next county. I got on the radio to call the bridge tender...

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. Lonely Days and Lonely Nights. I've definitely noticed a trend on this migration south. We are all alone. In marinas, at anchorages, there are really no other cruisers out here. Last time south, we traveled in a pack, lots of us grouped together each day, headed towards warmth. The anchorages were full, as we all jockeyed for our little piece of bottom grabbing. Links to this post. Finally going the right way. We got away from SailCraft Boatyard this mor...

Follow the Journey: Casting Bubba's

http://sv-journey.blogspot.com/2011/12/casting-bubbas.html

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. They were generally two to a boat, and not anchored, just bobbing around. Every now and again two boats would bump, and one arm would reach out and push off. No engines could be heard, I was getting a mite nervous as we approached. There were a lot of them, they were right in our path, what were they doing there? The Dueling Banjo's theme thrummed in my head. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Finding your way around. The original Journey info page. The old blog site. Would you like fries with that? Never mind, I forgot the cooking oil. People write a lot about provisioning a ship, that is of course, the purchasing of edible items that one pre-purchases before a cruise. For all of you readers who haven't had the pleasure of cruising on your own boat, allow me to enlighten you just a bit. Take for six months in the Bahamas. (It's OK now folks, that alone will keep them busy for a few hours). I must do this kind of math...

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. Flirting with the dark side. We settled on a pontoon boat. Comfy, large enough for a few friends, able to host a porta-potty (critical at our age as I don't see myself shlepping onto swampy wild shores to squat among the gators and skeeters.) Something we can trailer and putt-putt around Fl. on while maintaining a level of comfort. Then the cleanup began. Did you know that bats find an unused outboard compartment to be an excellent bat-house? Sailing, Si...

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. The original Journey info page. Journey in 2004, at purchase. At anchor, in Bimini. Our previous Journey was a 1977 Islander, purchased in 2004. We learned the finer art of avoiding other boats and docks during the six years she was a member of our family. We even sailed her from NC to the Bahamas, before returning to the states in 2010. At 28ft, we discovered that we needed a "bigger boat" to reenter the world of serious, full time cruising.

The original Journey info page. The old blog site. I'm neglecting the boat projects page! Take me off of boat projects, I can't be trusted to update y'all! Umm, didn't fall for that, huh? Alright, let's see what I have in my products bag for us today. The real super-duper project that Al and I completed is the new backsplash mirror. It reflects light, adds a touch of class and makes the salon appear super-huge, all in one! Al is installing 2 new electrical outlets in the galley for. Stove in the corner&#...

The Last Blog on the Left. Vin Diesel: Eine Hommage. Aufgebaut, ...

The Last Bohemian City | You don't choose New Orleans….it chooses you

The Last Bohemian City. You don't choose New Orleans….it chooses you. In a city that’s staring down the barrel of its 300th birthday, I feel comfortable in my sweeping generalization that there’s a story just about everywhere you look in New Orleans. You don’t have to walk too long before the bizarre crosses your path, and if you have spent enough time here, sometimes it doesn’t even register on the radar. Sometimes. Throw Me Something Mister! There’s no better time to observe New Orleans in all her deca...
