The Leen Machine: Lasts and Firsts
http://www.theleenmachine.blogspot.com/2012/08/lasts-and-firsts.html
Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Sam and the enormous beyond. Hoo, boy. What a roller coaster of a day. Yes, the enormous kid rosary. And Mary's gentle prompt ("Do whatever he tells you to do."). If there was anyone who understood how hard it is to let go of a child and allow them to fulfill their destiny, no matter what it would hold or how wrenching it was for you, it was certainly her. What will he find out? It's a mystery, just as it probably was to that holy woman almost 2000 years ago. A piece of writin...
The Leen Machine: January 2008
http://www.theleenmachine.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
Tuesday, January 29, 2008. I handed Sam an enormous pump bottle of moisturizer today and then turned my back. Big mistake. Well, at least we are both well moisturized now. Saturday, January 26, 2008. Sam vs. the pronoun. Sam has started to speak in small phrases, but the idea of the proper designation of pronouns is still a mystery to him. He reaches for me and asks, "Carry you? Or points to my food at dinner and says, "Eat mine? Do you want my food? We actually get to go out tonight! And when Sam did wa...
The Leen Machine: Writing "Space"
http://www.theleenmachine.blogspot.com/2012/02/thanks-to-jennifer-fulwiler-over-at.html
Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Thanks to Jennifer Fulwiler over at Conversion Diary for providing the inspiration for the post - a picture of my writing space. My wife and I joke about the time bc (before children) when we had ample, nearly unlimited amount of quiet time. Now there are occasions when are alone without the kids and we are so surprised at the quiet. February 29, 2012 at 11:22 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Why I Hate Sleeping Beauty. The Leen Machine: Journey to weaning
http://www.theleenmachine.blogspot.com/2012/05/journey-to-weaning.html
Thursday, May 10, 2012. Rather, I have stilled my soul,. Hushed it like a weaned child. Like a weaned child on it's mother's lap,. So is my soul within me. Psalm 131 vs. 2. About three weeks ago, Caroline greeted me at the top of the stairs. "I'm ready to wean, Mommy! But she was serious. The next day, she bumped her head and crawled on my lap, asking to nurse. I asked if she was sure, since she'd told me the day before she'd wanted to wean. "Oh, yeah! And that was it. She was weaned. And three weeks lat...
The Leen Machine: The High Cost of Music
http://www.theleenmachine.blogspot.com/2014/02/the-high-cost-of-music.html
Monday, February 3, 2014. The High Cost of Music. A piece of writing. For one thing, there aren’t 40 students a week to teach, and those students who do want lessons usually have similar demands on their time like going to school until three in the afternoon and going to bed at a reasonable hour. And remember that list up there in that other paragraph? I wonder if she uses coupons for lasik eye surgery as well. February 4, 2014 at 8:03 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Alec: Tour de Parks
http://alecwalbrun.blogspot.com/2010/05/tour-de-parks.html
Updates on Alec and random ramblings from a first time father (and sometimes from his mother). Thursday, May 27, 2010. Today when we woke up, Alec informed me that he was pretending to be a "clever chicken". I asked the clever chicken if he would like to explore some new parks, and he clucked emphatically (which I interpreted as "yes"). I printed out a map of all the parks in the Queen Anne neighborhood and we hit the road. On the carousel, and then jumping on to join me. The little daredevil!
Alec: Weekend
http://alecwalbrun.blogspot.com/2010/05/weekend.html
Updates on Alec and random ramblings from a first time father (and sometimes from his mother). Monday, May 24, 2010. As mentioned in my previous post, we got GERBILS this weekend. Alec's sheer joy and excitement before and after we went to buy them was caught on video (must have Rob show me how to upload a video to the blog). When he woke up from his nap Friday afternoon, I quietly asked him "Would you like to go pick out your gerbils at Petco? Two posts in one week - what is going on? Kathryn's 6th year...

Updates on Alec and random ramblings from a first time father (and sometimes from his mother). Tuesday, November 30, 2010. We have one excited little boy! Over Thanksgiving week, we uncharacteristically got dumped up with a huge snowfall. Alec loved every minute spent outside in the freezing weather, and took playing in the snow to a new level with his Jeep and balance bike. He just never seems to care if he is cold or covered with snow! As always, lots of funny things have come out of his mouth lately:.

Updates on Alec and random ramblings from a first time father (and sometimes from his mother). Tuesday, May 05, 2009. Alec is a boy now. Our baby is a distant memory. He talks to us in full sentences that make sense. He reasons and negotiates. He asks questions about the world. We answer the "why? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Kathryn's 6th year of life interview. Updates on Alec and random ramblings from a first time father (and sometimes from his mother). Monday, November 03, 2008. After finishing some major house projects I finally have time to go through some of the photos and videos from this summer. I put together this short video tonight of Alec and his cousins Jack and Grant. We spent a great week in Bend, OR at Lindsay's Dad and stepmother's home. This video is of the boys playing on a Slip 'n Slide. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The High Cost of Music.

On hillary and grief. November 11, 2016. The first moment I felt anything besides bracing fear or numbness was Wednesday afternoon, when Hillary gave her concession speech. The moment she mentioned girls and women, the reaction was immediate and visceral. The bone-deep grief that had been weighing down my limbs like lead finally began to melt, and I wept. I cried for the uncertain future. The loss of innocence and progress. And I cried for myself, because I am human. The fear is not for what is lost.

Adam Tessa . Morgan . Caden. Miss Morgan has official entered the world of "terrible two's". Don't get me wrong she isn't horrible like yelling, screaming, throwing, hitting, punching, anything like that . she just likes to test her boundaries, be independent, and let her voice be heard :). On Monday, she refused to take a nap! She is way too young to start refusing these already! Mama still needs that time haha! I tried for well over an hour to get her down for a nap and nothing! My Kids Are Growing.

Just thoughts on walking faithfully in Christ…with people. The lee of the dune. Count It All Joy (or grumble and complain). January 1, 2016. January 2, 2016. It’s New Years Day. We are on our way to St Petersburg for a wedding. Or we were until an hour ago when we decided to check a funny rattle coming from the engine of Old Faithful- the van we are driving. He didn’t say that. And I’m presented with the opportunity to “bring every thought captive…”. By the grace of God, ours broke where there is a mecha...
