All the things you can live without. and all things you cannot. Recently, I’ve spent an inordinate amount of time trying to do something for my job that I don’t know how to do. The task involves some improvements to our website. My current coding skill-set allows me to make some minor tweaks here and there, but not much more. Today, I let go of helplessness. Larr; Next day.

All the things you can live without. and all things you cannot. Most of my adolescence was spent wanting to be someone else. I didn’t want to have other peoples’ qualities. I wanted to. Them I wanted their bodies, girlfriends, buddies, talents, etc. This was a problem. I was, and continue to be, me. While I am much more comfortable with myself since that time, the 13 year old boy who wants to be varsity quarterback haunts me. He says that everything I do is wrong.

At the gym this morning I noticed my mind saying, “just get it over with.” Get through your sets, get home, get XYZ done, watch 45 minutes of TV and go to bed. Get through it. It won’t be long. These thoughts are exhausting. They rob me of all the joy of the present moment. Hell, I like to work out. Perhaps there is more to life than a procession of tasks preceding death. Who knows?
