Twice In A Lifetime: Very Big Passages and Very Little Kids

http://thelifegalactic.blogspot.com/2014/04/very-big-passages-and-very-little-kids.html

Twice In A Lifetime. Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Very Big Passages and Very Little Kids. They're f- -ing heros. They were trying to give their kids the very best life possible. A writer acquaintance,. Eric and Charlotte Kaufman. Elias crossing the equator en route to the Marquesas, age 1. This photo and below - Eric en route to the Marquesas, age 1. Story is very close to home for us, since we have twice sailed the passage that they were on - once on Pelagic. And once on Galactic. The risks that come from t...

Twice In A Lifetime: Galactic

http://thelifegalactic.blogspot.com/p/boat.html

Twice In A Lifetime. Our first boat was a 25' lake sailor that we named Little Auk. We sailed that boat far and wide around Kodiak. Our next boat was the 37' Pelagic. Which we sailed from Alaska to Australia. When we had our second child in Hobart, we decided it was time for a new boat. More than anything else, I wanted a boat with doors. Pelagic. We ended up finding this new ride in California. We named her Galactic. Reasoning that if Pelagic. Meant "of the open sea", Galactic. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Twice In A Lifetime: Port Davey

http://thelifegalactic.blogspot.com/2013/01/port-davey.html

Twice In A Lifetime. Monday, January 14, 2013. So here's the thing about Port Davey - to get there from Hobart in your boat, you have to stick your nose out on the south coast of Tassie and travel dead west for a day. Since southern Tasmania is well into the roaring forties, you need a lull in the persistent westerly winds to make the trip. That's one of the things that makes Port Davey special - it can be tough to get to. We had a perfect. Family life is a little more mellow now, in the two-year-old and...

Twice In A Lifetime: What Happened Next

http://thelifegalactic.blogspot.com/2015/07/what-happened-next.html

Twice In A Lifetime. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. It would take some real writing to get this part of the trip down. After we left the Straits of Magellan we cut down Canal Cochrane, took the briefest look at the open Pacific, and ducked back into the protection of the canales. Canal Ocasión and Canal Brecknock - the road to the Beagle Channel. Brecknock - see the mast? Love that deck stack on a cold morning. Winter came in for real on our second morning in Caleta Brecknock, and it never left. The feeling o...

Life & Times of S & D: Reprieve

http://shiwayanddave.blogspot.com/2015/03/reprieve.html

Life and Times of S and D. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. I finally called the airlines a couple hours before we were supposed to leave to reschedule our flight for the following week. It was a tough week. Leo ended up getting the coughing crud and passed it to Max and Noah. Photo dump coming soon. Posted by Shiway (and sometimes Dave). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe To This Blog. Paul, Heather, Coal, and Teal. Early June 2011: YKD Brant Imagery Survey, Grandpa Ron, etc. Early June is a busy time for me with the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta brant colony imagery survey. To facilitate the unlikely combination of baby (breast-feeding) and field work, I had a cadre of helpers in the field and on the homefront. (Thanks GayLee and Mike Anthony, Grandpa Ron "the Manny", Ron and Jan Tharldson, and papa Paul). Out with the old and in with the new. The brant imagery survey. We renamed the Husky "S...

Sailing With Pelagic: Day 6

http://sv-pelagic.blogspot.com/2015/08/day-6.html

Check out our trip to see where we are now (right hand margin). For some reason you will only be able to see our last location. To remedy that, once you click on the link, look in the upper left corner, pull down the Spain to Caribbean header, change the history to a month and then update the map. I'm not sure why it won't save permanently. If anythings gonna happen, it's gonna happen out there boss! Sunday, August 16, 2015. 950 miles to go. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Life & Times of S & D: June 2014

http://shiwayanddave.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Life and Times of S and D. Sunday, June 15, 2014. The past 5 months. And now it's June and Ama came again for a week while Dave was in Barrow. And now I'm getting ready to defend my thesis on Thursday. Maui Ocean Center was a big hit. Leo's favorite game: trying to get past Dave to get into the ocean. Fun on the beach! At the Ice Park. Walk with Ama and Emma. Helping Dada spray the seedlings. Oops too much jello before bed. Thanks for the photo Dan. Heads of Baby A and Baby B. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
