Nerd Record: Are Academics Irrational?
http://nerdrecord.blogspot.com/2009/05/are-academics-irrational.html
A Personal History of Realizations. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. My main nerdiness is philosophy. "Why study that? Is a popular question. Typically, my answer is, "I'm wired weirdly; I just like it." I rarely defend it further. Like a good self-doubting philosopher, I wonder whether I could defend it further. Yes, I can offer reasons to think that philosophy is important and valuable. But that might just be rationalizing NASA with Tang. The opening quote of the documentary The Linguists. Posted by Sean Landis.

etxerantz - toward home: settling in
http://etxerantz.blogspot.com/2008/10/settling-in.html
Etxerantz - toward home. Saturday, October 25, 2008. Maybe you wouldn’t know it by the looks of the place, what with the stacks of still unpacked shoeboxes of miscellaneous trinkets and supplies, and the still very blank walls all around, but it has been six weeks since I moved into my new home. It really was a great find, a charming studio in an old (1930s-ish) yellow stucco building right in downtown Palo Alto. Busy settling into my new town. Furniture. My dad was nice and let me try to help assemb...

Just another WordPress.com site. 8220;The Linguists” are assholes. April 29, 2011. I watched the documentary “ The Linguists. 8221; yesterday in my Native American languages class. I didn’t like it. I mean, I think it’s great that there’s a documentary attempting to make people more aware of language loss, but man, David Harrison and Greg Anderson (the two linguists profiled in the film) are. Maybe I’m just overreacting. What do you think? From → Linguistics. And I do agree with you that the documentary ...
