A Year in Swanage: 20/06/10 - 27/06/10

Tuesday, 22 June 2010. Round the Island Race. Up at 0400 hrs to travel down from the "Folly" for the start at 0510, I was grateful to be in an early start as there are far less boats on the start line. Once again it was a great spectacle, clear sky's, a light wind to begin with and 100's and 100's of yachts, all seemingly wanting to be in the same bit of water you are in . You have to be very focused at this point, with eyes in the back of your head and a crew you're very confident with. This lasted us t...

Friday, 6 July 2012. Too much then too little. Hey Ho Yesterdays race abandoned again, this time No Wind. Graham and Wendy visiting on holiday from their Holiday. Last chance to get everything sorted out for the Atlantic crossing in November. Sunday, 1 July 2012. In the last 10 days we have had 3 races abandoned or cut short through too much wind. Everyone wants to get on the water but we are braving bigger winds than we would normally because we have missed so many races to the weather. Life on the list.

Tuesday, 1 June 2010. It was the 75th Anniversary of the Swanage Sailing Club this weekend, I was on Safety duty for the Cup race on the Saturday. A wet and windy day with only 8 sailors taking part, and out of that only 4 finishers. Good day to put the safety boat training into practice and happy to say everything went OK. 1 assisted righting and 1 stand by. BBQ in the evening was a success despite the cool wind, with over 80 persons attending. Anchored up for the night just off Brownsea .

A Year in Swanage: Kontiki sea trials
http://ayearinswanage-martin.blogspot.com/2012/08/kontiki-sea-trials.html
Sunday, 12 August 2012. We have revamped last years RNLI Raft Race winning raft "KONTIKI" with new sponsons. The sponsons were fine but the boat, despite a new coat of paint leaked like a sieve. The danger is that the new sponsons having less bouyancy will not aid the the boat in staying afloat. A lot of water came in last year as well so I'm wondering whether they actually stopped us sinking in the end. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). There was an error in this gadget. Life on the list.

Saturday, 14 July 2012. Something went wrong with my calculation of tidal streams as from Alderney onwards we never got our expected boost down to Guernsey. The only tricky part of the journey was that I would have preferred not to go down the little Russell channel in the dark. We eventually got in at 11:30 after a very tiring 16hrs. Straight to bed. Friday, 13 July 2012. The OlympicTorch comes through Swanage. A few pictures for you. Thursday, 12 July 2012. Shiny new Inshore Lifeboat. Life on the list.

Saturday, 4 August 2012. Busy weekend this. A general lack of organisation has led to a hasty arrangement of Regatta activities. I suppose this was bound to happen as club life has been severely disrupted by the ongoing refurbishment works. It's a shame that we are not quite finished in time but hey ho that's life. Sunday was queiter and after racing we had an official opening of the new training room by Rodney Pattisson just after Ben Ainsley won his 4th Gold Medal. Friday, 3 August 2012. We missed the ...
