The Literary Project

Interviews with writers, authors and industry insiders. There was an error in this gadget. Friday, 15 February 2013. An Open Letter to Terry Deary. So, I have decided to go through the points you have made over the last few days and give you the information that any Librarian, had you consulted them, would have been able to provide you with. Libraries have had their day. They are a Victorian idea and we are in an electronic age. They either have to change and adapt or they have to go. Because our librari...

how-you-say-it: June 2010

http://how-you-say-it.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 24, 2010. Monday to Wednesday, I was in Manchester, on a course that I enjoyed thoroughly - fellow participants exceeding my expectations around humour, deep thinking, and scope for creating intrigue. Monday morning, during a break, I am walking down a wide looping staircase with a fellow participant, The Dane. She is 30ish, she is tidily casual, and we've already spoken of various cultural interests. What did you say you did? I manage a small design team. But, minimum wage? This pleases m...

http://how-you-say-it.blogspot.com/2011/06/5-hours-after-mams-service.html

Monday, June 13, 2011. 5/7: Hours after Mam's service. Her parents had moved 200 miles north such that an adoption, 'at their age', could be effected. Now, overlooking a blustery North Sea, she clasped the hand tight - the good man, the one who would not get away, the one who had already decided to leave. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Saturday, June 11, 2011. Barely perceptible, but there, a flicker of something - no doubt about it, the eyes flashed alert. Half-baked hypotheses now queuing to be made sense of, the older man rose, made his excuses, and headed out onto the street. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Northerner. In the Midlands. how-you-say-it: January 2011

http://how-you-say-it.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 10, 2011. On Boxing Day, I risked getting into Newcastle-upon-Tyne - through hordes of sales shoppers and the great amassing ranks of 53,000 football supporters to entreat. There was a time, during some extended building works when the toilets were some combination of not draining and, thus, getting deeper. Phew, phew and phew again! I don't know why you do it. Y' know, they're just as happy chillin' out - maybe give them a year off next year, eh? Though I am adopted. I can hear that!

Having got over the introduction phase of my new Rules of Writing I thought I could just get right into part 2 without any preamble on my part. I was wrong. Something was brought to my attention while reading an article online and it would be remiss of me not to mention this up front. So here it is:. Each scene d...

Wednesday, March 02, 2011. I'll not bore you with the whys and wherefores of why and wherefore I happened to be reading up on schools in the Bangor (north Wales) area, but let me share my delight in finding some very subtle tweakings to the wikipedia site of one of those schools, here. Note the beginning of paragraph three, and the delicate amendment to the Band Jazz Ysgol Tryfan heading. Young people - so wonderful, so creative. Hope this finds you well. Links to this post. Wednesday, November 03, 2010. A Post on the Subject of Travel in Sweden. It had been far too long since such a jaunt. A bridge that connects the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to the west, with the Swedish city of Malmo to the east. From the train, edging into Malmo. As one of Malmo's outdoor markets close up, the culture of van decor presents itself. Saturday morning strolling leads to the fish market, and eels. And to the Turning Torso. Links to this post. I have met cancer patients and survivors and I practiced on how to be silent and listened.
