the little blue shack

The little blue shack. Sunday, June 28, 2015. A change of scene. I won't abandon this one completely, it's been like a personal creation, one I'm too attached to to let go of completely. Hope to see you soon. Friday, July 4, 2014. Garden plans coming to fruition. Our first wicking gardening bed, showing the initial wicking layer, the hedge growing behind it and the fence. All took a long time to put in place but well worthwhile. The pergola under final construction, surrounded by four mini wicking beds w...

the little blue shack: July 2014

http://thelittleblueshack.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

The little blue shack. Friday, July 4, 2014. Garden plans coming to fruition. Luckily along the way we have made some good long term decisions. Our fences took a lot of our time and money to put in place, but have protected our garden and chickens from neighbourhood dogs. Our wicking beds were a well thought out and planned project to slowly replace vegetable gardens on the ground that baked dry in summer and washed away with the rain. My potting area eventuated from my desire to have a place where every...

the little blue shack: February 2013

http://thelittleblueshack.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

The little blue shack. Monday, February 18, 2013. Rain, rain, and more rain. A fortnight ago, after we had the first lot of deluge I pulled out the cucumber plants which had been flourishing happily in the number one wicker bed up till that first rain. They thrived, protected from the worst of the heat with a shade cloth canopy, and had enough constant access to water via the wicker bed setup, but kept free from water directly on the leaves. My first successful cucumbers! In all lots coming along nicely&...

the little blue shack: February 2014

http://thelittleblueshack.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

The little blue shack. Thursday, February 27, 2014. Trial mini wicking bed. I have been inspired recently by the blue shell shaped plastic sand pits/swimming pools that you can buy from Bunnings. A neighbour had been using one as a makeshift pond for some ducks and ducklings that had made their way into her backyard. With an approximate diameter of about 3 foot or 90cm and at only $12.50 they seemed a good size and value for a purpose made wicking bed. In went a few Marina Di Choggia pumkin seeds from Gr...

the little blue shack: My July to do list

http://thelittleblueshack.blogspot.com/2014/07/my-july-to-do-list.html

The little blue shack. Wednesday, July 2, 2014. My July to do list. Welcome to the first day of July! Well it was the first day, but then I got busy doing other things! I've been sitting down thinking about everything that needs looking at in the garden and thought I'd share my to do list, maybe it will inspire you too. Banana flower needing removing to allow bananas to put their energy into the bunch. Spring bulbs I'm hoping to get planted early this month. The turmeric is beginning to die down now as w...

the little blue shack: June 2014

http://thelittleblueshack.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

The little blue shack. Monday, June 30, 2014. It's been a busy time for me since my last post and a busy time in the garden too, so time for a quick update. We've been continuing to harvest eggplants, the four eggplant seedlings I put in last year have been incredibly prolific and are still producing an abundant amount. Our tomatoes ( I think they were called something like Marmande? But more about that later). Our chillies have been really productive and in general things are doing well. Pidgeon Peas, t...

The Little Blue Raven Studio. Saturday, July 11, 2009. Tutorial - How to Apply Hair to Fairies. A quick picture tutorial to show you how I attach mohair to my sculptures. The Little Blue Sailboat

Friday, 3 June 2016. I'm back after a year so i guess it's time for a sad ramble (bet you missed me). Its so crazy for me to be back on my blog again, I'm sure you were probably very puzzled when you saw my blog name pop up on your feed, wondering where on earth this random person has come from. I promise at one point you did follow me and I'm hoping that it was because you liked what I had to say. I always rolled my eyes when I heard adults talk about how difficult it was being a teenager. It's only tod...

The Little blue shack's garden

The Little blue shack's garden. Thursday, 13 August 2015. August to do in our subtropical garden. My to do list this month is epic, more than a little overwhelming and the month is almost half gone. Some things have truly gotten out of control, a bit like the pond. One of the wicking Asparagus beds, topped up with compost, but still waiting to be mulched and I'm running out of time as it's already put up it's first fronds while I wasn't looking. Add to this that almost all of my potted plants need repott...

I had a New Year aim of selling my crafts and I'm determined to fullfill at east one of my resolutions. Well the loosing weight one went out the window ages ago. Maintaining my current weight is tricky enough. And it's still unfinished! Wednesday, 29 May 2013.
