It is performance in Depp dives into the complexity of what this person went through. 6) Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Depp’s performance in this film is one of his most effective, emotional and charming. He plays J.M. Barrie, the one who wrote Peter Pan. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape? 3) Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The best perfo...

The Locked Cut: Olympus Has Fallen (**)
http://thelockedcut.blogspot.com/2013/03/olympus-has-fallen.html
A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Sunday, March 24, 2013. Olympus Has Fallen (* ). A building gets taken over by a group of terrorists. The terrorists take the people inside hostage. One man inside basically kills every one of them and tries to save the day. Does this sound a little familiar? The film picks up 18. Months later where we see Mike has a desk job. Why? Mike manages to get inside and to get the president back. It just doesn’t seem likely. These scenes are edited at a very fast pace and...

http://thelockedcut.blogspot.com/2013/06/man-of-steel-12.html
A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Sunday, June 16, 2013. Man of Steel (* *1/2). Now comes Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”, which reboots the Superman franchise by telling the origins of the hero and the result is the best Superman film made to date. This is the most effective, realistic, serious and exciting Superman film that I have seen and features wonderful performances. As the villain, Michael Shannon is wonderful and very menacing as the ruthless General Zod. He is very memorable as is Amy ...

A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Oz: The Great and Powerful (* 1/2). He goes to the Emerald City and along the way he meets a flying monkey named Finley (Zach Braff) who becomes Oscar’s servant after he saves him. Once he gets there he meets Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and sends him off to kill the witch and I am going to stop explaining right now because I don’t want to spoil anything because there are a few twists to the story. Another performance that is also very good is Z...

The Locked Cut: Spring Breakers (***1/2)
http://thelockedcut.blogspot.com/2013/03/spring-breakers-12.html
A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Sunday, March 24, 2013. Spring Breakers (* *1/2). Once there they do what all college kids do on spring break, which is party, drink, do drugs and hookup with random guys. However, they have a run-in with the cops and the four girls are arrested. They are bailed out by a small time gangster and wannabe rapper named Alien (James Franco) and from then on the film takes a turn down a rather dark path as the tone changes. One criticism that I really have for the film ...

A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Tuesday, March 19, 2013. The Incedible Burt Wonderstone (* *). So Burt and Anton try and to keep up and try to think of a new trick with the help of their assistant Jane (Olivia Wilde), but it may also put Burt and Anton’s friendship in jeopardy. The costume he wears is ridiculous and over the top and it is funny to watch him try to find work after his ticket sales keep slipping. I didn’t laugh hard much, but yet I am still recommending it because I was neve...

A blog dedicated to an analysis of film. Monday, May 20, 2013. Star Trek Into Darkness (* *1/2). Back in 2009, director J.J. Abrams rebooted the Star Trek franchise with “Star Trek”, a very well-made and exciting film that developed the characters that trekkies all know and love. However, I was surprised by how much I liked it because I never watched a single episode of any of the Star Trek. Sunday, May 19, 2013. The Great Gatsby (* *). Iron Man 3 (* *1/2).
