http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/p/our-family.html
Bake of the Week. After meeting in Toronto in 2003 (where I, Sarah-Anne was born and raised), Chris and I moved back to his home town of Penetanguishene. Life in a small town with a total population of less than 10,000 has its challenges, but we are reaping the benefits of living simpler all the time. Our very own ham). We also have some furry children at the homestead: our dogs Lexxy, Norah, and Daisy, and our cats Azreii and Lorien. We also have a flock of 9 layer hens now; five Barred Rocks. For us, t...

Bake of the Week. Friday, June 5, 2015. First sprouts, and then some. Last weekend we finally finished the last of the planting, late as it was. By this point we are usually thinning the rows of beet and radish, this year the first of the latter are only now poking through the soil. That being said, we've added some new additions to our plant list; sunflowers, and these little green gems:. Sprouts - these are excellent eaten raw or lightly steamed. And this variety I discovered from our seed company.

Our Somewhat-Urban Homestead: fall in love with gardening...
http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/2015/06/fall-in-love-with-gardening.html
Bake of the Week. Tuesday, June 16, 2015. Fall in love with gardening. Ask any gardener and they will tell you that no matter how small a garden, it is a time and labour intensive undertaking - and one that to an outsider may not seem worth the effort for the yield a home garden often produces. However, I am of a mind (and am certainly not alone) that we get so much more out of gardening than the end result of food. Today was an incredibly stressful day at work. Now don't get me wrong, I love. It can be ...

http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Bake of the Week. Saturday, October 30, 2010. Our Thanksgiving - And a better-late-than-never Bake of the Week! Well, there you have it everyone: our 50th post! I feel like we should celebrate with a cake or something. No? How about with some zucchini-apple pie then:. It didn't last long at all! I am sure I've mentioned it before, but this is my favourite time of year. You know who you are; and I use the term "friend" loosely; we consider you more family. And even though our kitchen was packed, it was no...

Our Somewhat-Urban Homestead: December 2010
http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Bake of the Week. Sunday, December 12, 2010. Bake of the Week: BBQ Sauce and Wet Rub Kit. I am going to apologise for a couple things; firstly, the lack of posts. With all the Holiday baking, sewing, knitting, cleaning and general gift-making, I have had little time to go on the computer and write. There have been a couple posts I wanted to share, one of which was the bringing home of our tree (I just love Fraser Firs! Pay it forward is the most amazing idea ever! Caution; has a some kick to it! This is ...

In our family and neighbourhood to come together with the purpose of creating handmade and crafty Holiday gifts. I've been inspired by some of the craft ideas I've seen on other blogs, and now I am just itching to try them out myself!

Our Somewhat-Urban Homestead: Handmade Holidays 2010
http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/p/handmade-holidays-2010.html
Bake of the Week. Christmas in our household has always been first and foremost family-oriented. And this follows through in the type of gifts we exchange: I would rather give (and receive! Fewer presents, but know that the few that were chosen were made or picked out with love and thoughtfulness. When we give gifts, we give things that we know the recipient with cherish, and something that will bring light and happiness to their lives. We do not give a gift simply because we. For us, the goal is not to ...

Our Somewhat-Urban Homestead: February 2013
http://somewhat-urbanhomestead.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Bake of the Week. Sunday, February 24, 2013. We are still here! I seemed to me that it had been years since I posted last, and I hate to admit it, but when looking at my last post, I realized it had been! Going back to work after being on maternity leave with Marcus left me with little spare time for anything extracurricular, and I just slowly lost the drive and creativity to write. As I said, much has happened these two years. Firstly, Christmas 2012 brought a surprise gift for me; a proposal! Following...
