The Making of a Farmstead: Snow falls...

http://themakingofafarmstead.blogspot.com/2012/12/snow-falls.html

The Making of a Farmstead. Creating a home in Northern Colorado. Tuesday, December 18, 2012. It's snowing. Like really snowing. Like tap the brakes and still slide by your dirt road snowing. I am in love with this type of snow. Even if it meant spending double time in the dark getting the girls ready and putting some Vaseline on their combs to prevent frostbite, adding more bedding and shutting them up tight for the night. Chores were, well not a chore. More like a meditation. View my complete profile.

The Making of a Farmstead. Creating a home in Northern Colorado. Monday, November 11, 2013. While I've got the crock pot going and another pot cooling on the stove, I'm going to sneak in some reading time snuggled up with the dogs. I should be vacuuming or doing some other long overdue domestic chore, but those can wait until later in the afternoon. I have a day off darn it. And I'm using it! Michael Pollan here I come. The Making of a Farmstead: Chick time...

http://themakingofafarmstead.blogspot.com/2013/02/chick-time.html

The Making of a Farmstead. Creating a home in Northern Colorado. Saturday, February 23, 2013. It wasn't exactly a harmonious trip. I tend to wander when I am in a store. Like really wander and can't be found easily. I truly believe I will be right in this spot when you get back. But then something catches my eye, for just a second, and then all bets are off. It's a curse. And typically drives those of the spousal persuasion a tad mental. So, we came home. Chickless. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Making of a Farmstead: Quick change...

http://themakingofafarmstead.blogspot.com/2013/10/quick-change.html

The Making of a Farmstead. Creating a home in Northern Colorado. Wednesday, October 9, 2013. After that last post. You know, the one on August 3 (is it really October? I went to that Fair. I also received a call from J, miles away from home on his motorcycle, that a storm was coming to our neck of the woods. And the dogs were outside. Uh oh. My heart was pounding as I made our driveway, wondering if the dogs and birds were ok. Then, three. That is a five gallon bucket. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Making of a Farmstead: Fresh Start

http://themakingofafarmstead.blogspot.com/2014/05/fresh-start.html

The Making of a Farmstead. Creating a home in Northern Colorado. Saturday, May 10, 2014. Can it really have been five months since I last posted? Winter was long, busy and focused on regaining my health. The beautiful thing about my health protocal? It promotes clean eating. Hyper clean! Raised beds went in for the permanent vegetable, herb and fruit plants. We tilled a 30' by 100-150' garden bed. Irrigation will go in soon. But not tomorrow with snow in the forcast. Weeds in the Grass. I'm in the throes of first love. There are mole holes in the backyard and weeds in the grass. Slugs crawl up the exterior walls of our house, leaving trails of a yellowish slime. Falling in Love with Place. What we love we will protect. If anyone wishes to use any of the images and text of this site, please contact for prior permission. Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Rainy Days and Slugs. Still, it isn't the rain I'm afraid I won't learn to love. After all, rain gives me the opportunity to cuddle up by a fire with a good book and drink lots of hot herbal tea. I'm afraid I will never, ever get used to living in a place with slugs! I can put up with the rainy days because I know that wit...

Falling in Love with Place. What we love we will protect. If anyone wishes to use any of the images and text of this site, please contact for prior permission. Saturday, April 28, 2012. Where is your creative place? Crow Island Woods was an elongated, rounded at its edges, strip of land – a slight mound actually – behind the low-slung, single-storied, yellow-bricked, big-windowed elementary school I attended in the late 50s and early 60s. Lesley and I sat ourselves on tree roots big as benches beneath ou...
