Topic: Praise Vs. Encouragement. Image Credit: More than just Montessori. In my travels through the Montessori blog world I have lately come across articles regarding the Montessori approach to encouragement and how it differs from praise. As usual, I don’t want to regurgitate the entire lexicon but the upshot is that when you (or our teachers or our parents or our friends) praise: “you are such a good girl! 8221; “this picture is so beautiful” “you’re a genius” we actually. InPraise of Morning Recess. This summer I met a wonderful mum who opted not to send her child to Maple Grove in Kindergarten because of morning recess. I respect this mum and trust that she knows what’s best for her child; it all worked out when her daughter was accepted into Tyee in Grade 2. I respect the pure view that recess, well, interrupts. The uninterrupted work cycle. But this is one more occasion where I truly appreciate the dual stream approach as a benefit. This entry was posted in Concepts.

If you can’t make the talk or you wish to pre-learn before the talk (though it’s certainly neither required nor expected! Here are a few resources. First up is the book Montessori: The Science Behind the Genius.
