Ben & Babs: Happy 2015!
http://benandbabs.blogspot.com/2015/01/happy-2015.html
Monday, January 5, 2015. Last year was a sad, sad year of blogging. And for our "goals for 2014." Granted, we did a lot of amazing things that weren't on the list, like complete grad school (I can't believe I didn't put that on my list, I mean, that was an easy thing to cross off! It's like adding things to my to-do list after I've completed them to make myself feel better.), move across country, and put together a Western-states tour of Ben's show. We had a freaking awesome year! Late in April a tiny pe...

Life of Boo: "The Moral Force of Women"

Saturday, November 16, 2013. The Moral Force of Women". Last month Dominic and I were asked to give talks about General Conference in sacrament meeting. Usually I make an outline and talk from that. On a whim I wrote out my talk this time. I received quite a few complimentary comments, which I don't normally get, so I thought you might enjoy it, too. The Moral Force of Women by Elder D. Todd Christofferson. Elder Christofferson doesn’t want to overpraise us, which he realizes makes us cringe. W...One mod...

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Tyler had his first scout camp this summer. Dave and Spencer went on a 50 mile hike, but they went up a few days early to help out with the camp. There was a pretty small group this year, but they had a ton of fun. Instead of going to one of the established scout camps, they did their own thing. This made it a lot cheaper and more relaxed. They were still able to mark off 5 merit badges: canoing, kayaking, rock climbing, first aid and cooking. The weather was perfect for the firs...

Thursday, December 18, 2014. Rock climbing at Cabrillo. We went rock climbing back in October. I had to get some supplies at the shell shop in Morro Bay for a church craft day, so we figured we'd make a family outing of it. It wasn't too hot when we got there because there was a little bit of shade. But that shade quickly disappeared, and it got toasty! That was a surprise, since it's usually so cool by the bay. Dave set up 2 ropes, and each rope could do a couple of different climbs. Way to go Tyler!

Friday, August 28, 2015. Spencer and Tyler had scout camp back in June/July. They went to Chawanakee Boy Scout Camp by Shaver Lake (3 hours away). Spencer went there 3 years ago and couldn't wait to go back. This was Tyler's first time there. They shared a tent. They drove up on Sunday. We were SO grateful to the leaders of Troop 164 (the other LDS troop in Paso) for taking our boys and staying there all week! In case you can't tell, they are being "chawanabears," which is what they call the squirrels up...

Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Gingerbread houses and Christmas baking. It would have been real easy to say we didn't have time for gingerbread houses this year. But we skipped it last year, and the truth, is I like doing them too! Plus they make great decorations. Just like the Christmas tree, we made them on a Sunday morning before church. This explains why everyone is in their jammies with funny bedheads. The older boys took a lot of time on theirs, and they turned out great! You can't rush art. We went...

Sunday, August 2, 2015. Colors on the beach. The first combined youth activity this summer was called Festival of Colors. They did it a few years ago, and it was such a big hit that now they do it every year. Dave, Spencer and Tyler were involved with it this year, and the little kids and I went too. We played in the sand until the color-throwing began. Everyone wears white shirts and throws colored powder at each other. They let the little kids join in. They were thrilled! Sunday, November 23, 2014. He had a super fun birthday. I took cupcakes to his class, and we had a little family birthday that night. We had a few gifts for him to open, and we asked him if he wanted to open them all that day (since he would later have a party with my family as well as a friend party). He thought about it and said he wanted to spread out his birthday and just open one present each day. That's some amazing discipline for a 5 year old! I made a s'more cake for the big family party. I s...

simplify: Family tennis
http://keepitsimple-hilary.blogspot.com/2015/07/family-tennis.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. We went as a family to play tennis at the park one Saturday last month. Spencer was trying out some loaner rackets from Tennis Warehouse in SLO to see which one he wanted to buy. He had borrowed one of his coach's rackets during the tennis season, and it was time for him to get his own. Levi was more interested in roller blading around the park. Spencer prefers to play singles, so he went on one side and played against the other 3 boys. Perhaps we should have bought two. Bananzas S...
