Pretentious Salad: November 2008
http://pretentioussalad.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, November 30, 2008. On Thanksgiving, my first pecan pie in quite some time was a mixed success. It tasted great, and looked fantastic until it was cut. It didn't set up in the very center very well, but it ate just fine. I'd put the recipe on here, but most of you have your own. I will mention that I whipped the cream with white sugar, a touch of vanilla, and JACK DANIELS. I will make this a regular practice. Wednesday, November 19, 2008. I absolutely LOVE my draperies! Now I'm trying to figure ou...

Pretentious Salad: May 2009
http://pretentioussalad.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 22, 2009. Here is my first attempt at using my MiniMe. This Simplicity pattern is a slip-on, and my dress form made that quite a challenge since I gave her "cap sleeves." (see below). This was really fun, though. I made it twice, since the first attempt was for gorilla shoulders. I reworked it and finished it this morning. Monday, May 18, 2009. Sorry Been travelling around. Just cooking repeats for awhile. The recipe calls for naan which I couldn't remember to pick up in the pretentious groce...

Pretentious Salad: January 2010
http://pretentioussalad.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 4, 2010. Can I Stick My Cold Feet in Soup? I don't know why I need warm liquids to stay warm when it is wintertime. I just do. And sometimes tea isn't enough. We are always looking for yummy soups, regardless of the weather. Martha provided one for us. (Martha Stewart, that is, from her January 2010 issue.) Unusual combination, but yummy results. I'll post a picture after I've finished my bowl. 2 T olive oil. 3 celery stalks. cut on the bias in 1/2 inch pieces. 2 pinches red pepper flakes.

Pretentious Salad: September 2008
http://pretentioussalad.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 25, 2008. Yesterday we had burgers for Indoor Date Night since KK was not working. So, of course with a free night, we often think of wine. My fall schedule seriously curbs my wine intake, but any night I'm not working, my thoughts lean towards what wine I'll have with what food. Labels: Bogle Old Vine Zin. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. We had it with some baked Arctic Char, and a Pinot Grigio. I think it would be even yummier with a Sauvignon Blanc. This recipe is sort of li...1 c p...

Big Ben: August 2011
http://benthekid.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 31, 2011. The First Day of School. Also, he tended to be quiet in a big group. No surprises there. I'm thinking maybe we'll work on circle time at home with our stuffed animals. I slept fitfully last night and felt twitterpated when dropping him off, so I just kicked myself out of the classroom quickly and ran 3 miles home. Then I made the mistake of walking to and from school to pick him up, which is about 4 more miles of walking. The first day of school wore me out! I never know wheth...

Big Ben: July 2011
http://benthekid.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 24, 2011. Here's the mural of Noah's Ark that I painted on the wall of our church nursery this past week. It may not be theologically accurate- that's up to you to decide. The adults love it and the kids ignored it. Oh well. Saturday, July 16, 2011. Fun in a Fabulous Felt Fort. A couple of months ago Jackamo brought to my attention a clever felt playhouse designed to fit over a card table. It was for sale on Etsy. With various cute decorations, and I thought, "I could make that!

Big Ben: Recipe for Haycorn Soup
http://benthekid.blogspot.com/2012/09/recipe-for-haycorn-soup.html
Friday, September 21, 2012. Recipe for Haycorn Soup. Ben has been collecting acorns in our neighborhood, usually to throw in the river, and he's been reading some classic Winnie the Pooh stories. That's how I came up with the idea of Haycorn Soup, and Ben assisted me in writing the recipe. Here it is. I would suggest an ingredient, and Ben would tell me how many. Then he helped me with the directions. FYI, we did not yell when we pretended to eat it. Here's Ben collecting acorns. Back from woods shopping.
